May as well set up a thread for this now, as the 13-man squad for the first Test has been announced.
So, the schedule:
First Test, DRAW: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
Second Test, ENGLAND WIN BY 115 RUNS: Lord's, London
Third Test, DRAW: Edgbaston, Birmingham
Fourth Test, AUSTRALIA WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 80 RUNS: Headingley, Leeds
Fifth Test, ENGLAND WIN BY 197 RUNS: The Oval, London
ENGLAND WIN 2-1 AND REGAIN THE ASHES
England's man of the series: Andrew Strauss
Australia's man of the series: Michael Clarke
Leading run scorer: Andrew Strauss, 474
Leading wicket taker: Ben Hilfenhaus, 22
England's squad for the First Test is as follows:
Andrew Strauss (capt), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Ian Bell, Matt Prior (wk), Andrew Flintoff, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar.
It's going to be entirely different from the Ashes in 2005, that's for sure. The way the papers have been going on about it, you'd have thought the 06/07 one had never happened... Australia have lost some superstars in the years since '05. Warne, McGrath, Langer, Gilchrist and Hayden. Some of their replacements have huge question marks over their heads, especially Warney's. But Clark and Johnson look likely to unsettle the English batsmen and Hughes is a bright prospect. Don't know if anyone saw the England Lions vs Australia match, but Brett Lee's spell on the second day (I think), was superb.
The question for both England and Australia is whether they have enough firepower, skill and intensity to get 20 wickets.
Roll on Wednesday, I'll certainly be having TMS in my ears all day.
