wouldn't it quite funny if phelps failed a drugs test! well it probably wouldnt but still... ;D It would indeed Miz but its probably his biomechanics they were showing yesterday. Feet that act liek giant flippers , a huge vital capacity & massive arm span. Yet again complaints of the restriction of journalists trying to film a pro-Tibet demonstration. The IOC merely issues a slap on the wrist. Talking of doping the Chinese women in the 200 fly Liu Zige made the former WR holder Schippers was made to look very ordinary. I distinctly remember in the 90s when Chinese swimmers did the same to the likes of legend Kristina Egerzeygi. Drugs I dont think so . Kitajima the mini-[helps won the double again as at Athens taking the 200 backstroke. The Aussie girls also smashed the 4x200 freestyle WR.

Couple of shocks in the tennis. Is this the end of Federer ? He lost in straight sets to America's James Blake a player who he had beaten eight times without dropping a set. Venus(what a misnomer) Williams was beaten by dimunitive Chinese Li Na & brother Serena was beaten by Elena Dementieva. Are these players really determined on winning a medal seeing as there is no money in it ? In the basketball the semi-finalists look to be USA ,Spain, Argentina & Lithuania. USA just destroyed one of the European powerhouses. Lithuania beat Russia in a tight game & deservedly so against a team fielding two Americans on passports of convenience. They themselves have been denied the services of two of their Lit NBA stars for reasons unknown.

Nadal will play Fedrico Gonsalez in an all Spanish affair in the mens final. He squeaked past Novak Djokovic ina tremendous encounter whilst Gonsalez held on 11-9 ina third set epic tobeat American James Blake. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/tennis/7562986.stmIn the womens Safina will play Chinese Lia Na whilst Zvonareva & Dementieva will contestthe other so looking good for Russia. The womens gymnastics all around was won by a turncoat Russian Anastasia Liukin in her trademark pink leotardwho perfectly exemplifies the Russian school of gymnastics combing artistry with technical perfection having been coached by father ex Soviet star Valeri Liukin. Yet again some homer judging on the partof the Chinese could not afford them a gold. Phelps continues on his merry way in the pool for the magic 8. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/swimming/7549701.stmAlso some canoeing history as the Slovak Hochschorner brothers claimed a third sucessive Olympic gold in the C2 class , an event in which it is notoriously difficult to win consistently at ,at any level. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/canoeing/7562988.stmBasketball Russias women look on course to meet the US in what should be a fiery clash. In the womens handball Norway ,Rumania & Russia have made the semis. What I have noticed in the groupings in the volleyball & handball for men & women is the relative weakness of Chinas groups. Favouritism ? The doping count has gone up again with three wankers caught cheating (and plenty more getting away with it no doubt). North Korean Kim Su has been stripped of his 50m pistol silver & 10m air pistol bronze . Thai woman gymnast Thi Ngan Do also failed a test. You have to wonder why bother ? She was 82nd ,yes 82nd overall in the floor exercise. And Bulgar 1500m runner Daniela Yordanova for testosterone. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/athletics/7564507.stm Considering the sucess of their female hurdlers of the early 90s & late 80s & their manliness it casts great suspicion on those medal winners. One other thing.Passports of convenience. The Americans have effectively bought Bernard Lagat to compete for them. There was a Kenyan running for the Dutch team today in the 10k a Hilda Kibet & several of the Gulf States athletes in Sam Francis ex of Jamaica in the 100m have been paid a nice sum to switch to these states. Surely this renders sport meaningless. Surely it should be about the sucess of ones measures in improving scouting, training & facility improvements in your own setup. Otherwise the BOC could go out to Kenya offer 500K each to a couple of the best young Kenyans ,give them a British passport & ask them to win some middle & long distance titles in the near future. Its time for sporting bodies across all sports to cut this practise out. Long night ahead . Plenty of caffiene too.

Djokovic takes the mens tennis bronze over Blake.
Yuri Borchin won one of the odder looking events at the Olympics the 20k walk. However he should not be eve competing. He failed a drug test a couple of years ago. And if the IOC had the guts to introduce lifetime bans the gold would have rightfully gone to Ecuadors greatest sporting hero Jefferson Perez.
Milorad Cavic gifted Phelps his seventh gold medal. It was a truly awful finish from the Serb when it appeared he had won by half a lenght in the 200 fly.
Fate ?

That's a woman? Apparently mate. ;D I know its not about looks but I much prefer those that look like real athletes the middle.long distance runners &jumpers who wont turn into giant dumplings ,like the various throwers & weightlifters ,as they age & the huge muscle bulk turns to fat. Surely there is room for beauty & grace amongst the power. I suggest the rhythmic gymnastics where Russia rule supreme .

Sensational from Bolt. Like Phelps blessed with unique biomechanics. This lovely from NZ won the womens shot put ahead of two equally delightful creatures from Belarus. ;D Roger Federer cant win a singles title anymore but he has secured the mens doubles with Stanislav Wawrinka with a 3-1 sets win over the Swedes Johansson & Aspelin. The Williams brothers will take on the Spanish pair in the womens event. France have secured qualification for the mens semi-finals in the handball the only team to do thusa far. Russia,USA,Italy & Brazil look odds on to make he indoor volleyball semis for the men. In the womens badminton Zhang Ning beat fellow compatriot Xie Finfang & the Chinese look set for a clean sweep of the medals. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/badminton/7564853.stmnews.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7564549.stmSurely this domination can be broken ? Another babe broke a weightlifting record by an astonishing 45kg !! She is the worlds strongest woman too. Steroid abuse .Hell no. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/weightlifting/7565406.stmMeanwhile the Chinese continue to hoover up the rest of the weightlifting medals.Eight out of nine golds. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7564550.stmI wonder if their athletes will get stringently tested. After all it would not do to upset the hosts. If Bolt looked comfortabel expect a US 1-2-3 in the 400m hurdles. Ed Moses revisited. Kim Clement is a similar phenomenon in the event & alongside Beershawn Jackson & former champion Angelo Taylor (suspicions of doping) should complete a clean sweep. Karolina Kluft who could & should have won the heptahlon title but opted for th triple jump & faile dto make the final will go for the long jump instead. In the womens pole vault the favourite the exotic Yelena Isinbayeva seeking tio emulate her hero Sergei Bubka topped the qualifiers with ease. Women's pole vault final qualifiers: Elena Isinbaeva (Rus), Shuying Gao (Chn), Svetlana Feofanova (Rus), April Steiner-Bennett (US), Monika Pyrek (Pol), Carolin Tamara Hingst (Ger), Vanessa Boslak (Fra), Fabiana Murer (Bra), Jennifer Stuczynski (US), Anna Rogowska (Pol), Yulia Golubchikova (Rus), Silke Spiegelburg (Ger) Drug cheat Janine Whitlock failed to make it & rightly so. Mens discus sadly again without GB representation. Piotr Malachowski (Pol), Virgilijus Alenkna (Lit), Bogdan Pishchalnikov (Rus), Mario Pestano (Spa), Robert Harting (Ger), Alexander Tammert (Est), Robert Fazekas (Hun), Rutger Smith (Ned), Yennifer Frank Casanas (Spa), Gerd Kanter (Est), Rashid Shafi B Aldorsari (Qat), Frantz Kruger (Fin) Same familiar names ith the big men slugging it out. The Baltic states rivalry should split the gold & silver. Certainly no Davids amongst this lot either.

I just can't comprehend Bolt's victory there, even watching it again on the BBC - to start celebrating 15m from the line and still break the world record is just unbelievable.
That's an average speed of just a shade over 20mph, even though he only went all-out 85% of the way. I really, truly hope that isn't a drug-boosted result (and let's face it, he's been tested 4 times already!) - what a phenomenal event that'd be.
