Well after a year of hype & tribulation the games commence tomorrow with a opening ceremony to rival that of Barcelona in 1992 & Sydney in 2000 & not unsurprising considering Chinas great cultural heritage.
Of course London 2012 will be a farce a mishmash of multicultural nonsense no doubt as exemplified by sending street hoodies off to this closing ceremony.
There will be unprecedented coverage of every discipline from table tennis to taekwondo in all sorts of media formats twenty four hours a day.
Aside from the dubious choice of Beijing considering the countrys human rights record & level of pollution (worse than Athens)& the imposition on residents having their residences destroyed to make way for Olympic facilities, how excited are you as sports fans ?
I will personally try to catch all sorts of sports that get the limelight once every four years, track cycling, rowing , fencing, badminton & diving usuallyanything where we have a medal chance plus some of the more unusual disciplines ie the beauty of rhythmic gymnastics & neglected team sports at least in the UK volleyball, handball & basketball.

I used to love athletics when I was about 11 and would watch anything that was on, same with cricket. But neither sport holds the same allure anymore to be honest.

I'll be watching the the athletics and the swimming, possibly the gymnastics too. They're the sports I used to be involved in when I was younger .

I love the Olympic's, can't get enough of it, sorry the politics dont interest me, sport and politics should be kept well apart IMO I guess you will be watching the men & womens field hockey then ? Also Marianne von Vos in the cycling & Holland will be looking for medals in the pool too. van Hoogenbands disciples. For Team GB Philips Idowu in the long jump, Kelly Sotherton (cute too) in the heptathlon, Nicola Sanders (400m) I guess. Radcliffe is a doubt still. Tomlinson hopefully in the high jump & some relay sucess. Why Ohourugou & Whitlock are still in this team is a disgrace. Theres Tucker in the womens triathlon (reigning world champion). A variety of the great track cycling team led by Bradley Wiggins, Chris Hoy,Mark Cavendish & Hertfordshires own very lovely Victoria Pendleton along with Rebecca Romero. The eights & coxed fours & sculls in the womens rowing. Andy & Jamie Murray in the mens singles & doubles. Ben Ainslie & some very good sailing prospects. Should pick up medals in the archery & shooting too. Equestrianism led by William Fox-Pitt & John Whittaker. Swimmers like Gregor Tait & Liam Tancock. Diving of course young Tom Daley . Artistic gymnastics Tweddle & co but I support the Russians & hope they wont get cheated again by the judges. Field hockey team GB will be hard pressed to get a medal in the mens but who knows. Germany ,Oz & Holland favourites. No India for the first time ever. Womens could sneak in there but again very tough. Korea, Holland Germany even Argentina all have a shout of the gold. And of course Emms & Robertson in the badminton. In the ring the Saunders brothers could surprise us all & get golds. Its a powerful boxing team BUT Cuba & Russia will look to head this table. Pity about the team sports. No basketball, handball, volleyball or water polo team. Full profiles of our team: www.olympics.org.uk/beijing2008/

I want to watch every minute, when I can. It's the only event that'll get me watching sports that normally don't inspire my interest. Favourites this time will be beach volleyball, Ladies rhythmic gymnastics and the syncronised swimming. The slow mo replays of the ladies' jump events in athletics, always "fascinate" me...

All things being equal that has to be the best Olympic opening ceremony to date. A fantastic window for the world into the greatness of Chinese culture & history(obviously missing some of the later horror shows) inc. a magnificent rendition of the voyages of Zheng Ze whose giant junks sailed to Australia & NZ ,India .all around the coasts of Africa, the west coast of South America & possibly even North America leaving ceramics ,jade & other small temples as evidence along with accounts of locals relating tales of their visit & so on & so forth. Loved the depiction of the creation of moving type by Bi Sheng & the fashions of the many dynasties. Truly a magnficent spectacle though the level of fireworks used wont do any favours for the levels of pollution. Pity about the three stooges commentating on the ceremony (switched to Eurosport to get away from it). I can just see it now 2012 where the London games have a tawdry shabby look & superficial feel showcasing the worst we have to offer namely ghetto culture ie crap & street dance. Hats off to the Chinese. It was well worth waiting for.

Great opening ceremony! Particularly liked the 'art project'- Walking through different coloured paints an onto a huge canvas.

A lot of the credit goes to Zhang Yimou the director of films like Hero who has an obvioius love & admiration for Chinese history & culture & is a very decent opera art director too. There were lots of lovely touches as you say Lolly. Maybe they should sign him up for 2012. Get that chequebook out Mr.Coe !

I love the olympics but deplore the fact China have been given them on immoral grounds. Just like South Africa getting the next world cup cos they haven't had one yet. China should've been made an example of but the entire world seems to back down to them. They get special treatment because they are 'developing' and they use it to fuck us all in the ass.
I feel sorry for ther people of China and especially those ordered to move to make way for the circus that is Beijing 2008.

I'll attempt to watch as much as I can, I love the Olympics. The swimming though is a must, as I love the commentators, and it's cracking to watch as well.
