i'm wondering what percentage of chinese medal winners will be on drugs......... i reckon about 70% I reckon so too. I'm disappointed by the level of spectator support in some venues. Also the very partisan nature of the support almost as bad in Atlanta in 1996 , with very rude crowds shouting during the gymnastics & badminton. As for some of these Chinese athletes when you hear of a swimmer who has improved 8 seconds in a year the alarm bells should be ringing. Also the womens weightlifiting the gold medallist there was hardly breaking a sweat whilst her competitors were visibly struggling to keep up. Suspicious ? No way. The facilities though are truly magnificent. GFJ I dont want the Olympics here in 2012. As far as I'm concerned Paris should have had the games. A short trip in the Eurostar would have been nice. This stupid government is going to waste £10BN on top of all its wasteful spending on a two week party. Even half of that money would have been better spent on creating top regional facilities(not once again Londoncentric bases), recruiting better coaches at all age levels & protecting schools sports grounds & helping schools link up with pro clubs in a variety of sports which would be of far better long term benefit. And paying PE teachers to take on sports after the end of the school day. I can see the facilities becoming white elephants unlike in Mnachester where at least they have been used again & again for World & European Championships, Manchester City have a nice new stadium & the velodrome has become the home of our magnificent track cycling superstars.

Well it's Olympic fever all the way in our house (as Si has already said), and I'm not ashamed in the slightest! Although I did get a bit carried away this morning watching Nicole Cooke and shouting at her to 'Row!'...yes, wrong sport, I know! London 2012? I'm bouncing with excitement over it already ;D Don't see why the stadia in London should be any different to the ones in Manchester and become unused . It's about time we had more national venues to be proud of, our swimming facilities have been in need of updating for a long time now.

cos no one in london needs a 60,000 + seater stadium, whereas Manchester City now play at Eastlands!
i agree with ovechkin8, the Olympics in London will probably be a waste. the money would have been better used developing young sporting talent and improving regional facilities....

It's about time we had more national venues to be proud of, our swimming facilities have been in need of updating for a long time now. Well some of this £10BN could have been used to build top Olympic sized pools in the large coonurbations. Young swimmers for example in the southwest have to hike all the way to Bristol to what are modest facilities. To put it in perspective Melbourne & Canberra by themselves have more Olympic sized pools. After 2012 is over I think many people will ask themselves was it really worth spending all that money for 16 days of sport ? Its a strategic waste of money when you see many facilities are badly in need of upgrading & especially the levels of coaching & school sports. Luckily I went to a grammar school with first class sports facilities where sport was considered important as academic acheivement & despite it being a state funded comprehensive(but with all the traditions of a grammar school it was) we used to beat the likes of all the private schools ie Merchant Taylors. Dr.Challoners around us. Now the school is semi-private & selective entry but the emphasis on sport has not changed. However other schools in the area have been forced to sell off playing areas for money & whose level of school sports is deplorable. All schools need to be elevated to the levels of the private & grammar sector & all kids exposed to a variety of sports. This country is to a degree too far football centric too.

Doping count . Isabel Moreno Spain womens time trial for EPO. Anastasios Gousis Greece 200m men for ?. What a pair of wankers. Also drug cheat Ekaterina Thanou will not be allowed to compete. Seeing as the other cheat in the 100m final from Athens Marion Jones had her medals stripped I hope the same will be applied to this cheat too.

Murray out in straight sets to some guy who's ranked 77th in the world! ..Useless Scottish TWAT! Until he wins his next big tournament, cos of course he'll be English then On the note of the London Olympics - I watched a bit of the opening ceremony of this one, and it was just incredible. Can't help but think the opening of the London one will be a bunch of hoodied chavs running around with a load of sparklers.

No need to wait until 2012 my man. We're sending a whole group out to embarass the UK & the Chinese ,at the end of these magnificent games. Pity the Royal Ballet dancers who will be performing alongside these charvers ,another pathetic example of cultural relativism. Thank god they will be carrying sparklers not oozi 9mm's whilst the tannoy plays 'Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting'.

Yes. USA crushed them. Only watch basketball round Eurobasket time. China were having to take long shots all the time. My knowledge of the game is not great as you can gather GB. Russia & Spain look pretty decent. The Lithuanians are a bit weaker this time (a couple of players were not released from the NBA.. why ?). Argentina the gold medallists from Athens wre unlucky but have been struggling in their preperation. Manu Ginobli the captain is barely fit. USA should cruise to the gold. Spain silver I reckon , Russia bronze. Caught some of the womens handball. Bloody exciting game. Dont be the goalkeeper !! Dont know it has not caught on here. Highest percentage of lesbians competing in this discipline at least from the Norwegian & Danish team. Thats after tennis.

As good as that is, you can't go the whole game like that. US annihalated(sp) them on the break many, many times. It was over well before the 4th quarter! LeBron James was awesome, had to laugh when Kobe Bryant got done for travelling! Yeah, I'd say Spain are the best basketball nation in Europe. Cos of the state of the Argentinian team atm, Spain, along with Russia like you say - will push the US I think. Not gonna make predictions though Lol, can't say I caught any of the womens handball mate, although by the sounds of it I should've. ;D Did catch a little of the womens weightlifting though, Canada's Marilou Dozois-Prevost - sexiest weightlifter I have ever seen! Alison Stokke is also my favourite pole vaulter of all time ;D Dunno if she qualified though

Shes a lovely looking athlete Ms.Stokke. Isinbayeva unless she does something ridiculous will take the gold. Track & field start day 8 I think mate. I have to say my idea of an athletic body are those competing in disciplines like the jumps & above 800m. Below this distance its far too much like bodybuilding. And as for the throwing events ...well. There are quite a few Eastern bloc lovelies along with our own Nicola Sanders (surprisingly slender for a 400m runner) & Kelly Sotherton. No Kratochvilovas anymore from the east anymore. Now theres a beauty if ever I saw one. ;D

A triumvirate of womens weightlifters. Personally I dont see the attraction GB. ;D Are they really athletes ? Or refugees from An Overeaters Anonymous meeting. I was on the tube one afternoon coming back from the England-Wales game at Wembley when Gibbs scored the last gasp try. There was a 'woman' in a number 8 shirt. I'm sure she was a bloke. She scared the beejeezus out of me. Womens rugby now theres a misnomer if ever there was one. Pity the backs trying to escape the butch forwards.
