Problem is you're in the minority. You actually care about the political system. Most just want to complain about the state of the country and flit between the party with the nicest smile (or the one that says it's going to reduce taxes and costs, even though that would mean reducing standards of services).

Most just want to complain about the state of the country and flit between the party with the nicest smile (or the one that says it's going to reduce taxes and costs, even though that would mean reducing standards of services). Well there does seem to be a return to short term thinking again in this country. Which usually makes the perfect circumstances for a right wing Conservative government to get elected, with a 'think of yourself and fuck everyone else, tough one the causes of everything, sell sell sell' based manifesto. The job of government is impossible at the moment though as people want better public services. With policing/fighting crime being of particular concern at the moment. All the old favourites like education, prisons, healthcare and social care are still there in the background as well. With people, as usual, demanding we throw extra money at them ....... but those same people would also like to pay considerably less tax!! The constant cry of the man in the street is that 'the government gives with one hand and then take with the other'. Well congratulations you've just stumbled upon one of the universal truths of life. If you want public services at a consistent level then they require consistent funding, and as a tax paying man on the street you'll pay consistently for it. Therefore being given something back in the form of lower taxes, is somewhat of a smoke and mirrors concept.

Oh and I had to laugh last night. I was watching Pulp Fiction when some people knocked on my door. "Hello I'm from the local conservative party, can I get your signature on the petition to stop the local post office from closing". "Sorry I'm not really interested, I don't use it anyway" "Ok. Can I ask you who you normally vote for?" "I vote Labour" "Ok thank you for your time" All the while the shiny faced Tory lady had to listen to the sodomy scene and the quote "bring out the gimp". I don't think the Tories will be bothering me again ;D

Which is why British politics is getting to state it is. When Blair was elected it was generally accepted that people wanted a younger fresher face to vote for. Now we have Blair clones in each party. Cameron is a shiny faced ad man, Nick Clegg just looks right but when they need a quote they'll wheel Vince Cable out because he at least has some sense. Then when Brown is ousted Labour are going to get Milliband, Blair's creepy little right hand man. All fluff and no substance and that what the majority want. Someone to smile at them and tell them everything is ok. On this a Blade and an Owl agree. To my mind those currently fronting the major political parties are intellectual pygmies in comparison to politicians of the past. Sad to say, but in todays climate of "glossiest, shallowest person takes all", the likes of Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee would never get to power.

Yes I can't ever see a 'Milliband' putting forward a welfare reform or changing the course of history, can you?

These boys and girls have all been to public school. They all know what it's like to be interfered with! ;D I think McCain will win. The Democrats have spent so long deciding who to take the candidacy that the 'safe' Republican is going to take it.

I think the setting up the NHS and Welfare State would be well and truly beyond him or his peers. Well that would mean having to do something for others and not just progressing their own careers.

I think the setting up the NHS and Welfare State would be well and truly beyond him or his peers. U must be joking those r socialists ideas they'll never happen in the US and we only got the NHS and welfare because 'old Labour' were socialists. Meanwhile New Labour is busying privatizing the NHS as we speak
