absolute shower of shite - Trott is the only half decent player in that team - and Maddy best get his arse in gear pretty shaprish - where's Jim Troughton as well - he's a quality batsman? And that SA fella - what's the point of having overseas players if they're still overseas

That's a good point about Troughton. Not just Maddy, the entire batting line-up. Even if we've faded away the last few seasons, we usually make a decent batting start. This could be a very long season if we carry on like this. Currently 58-3, but I'm off to Morrisons and what's the odds I get back in just over an hour and find out we've had a collapse?

we are really suffering with not having Bell and Ambrose as well. Plus I think we relied on our older players for too long without getting some youngsters i - and now the team is full of them and I have a feeling they may struggle Fingers crossed for the rain Pete

does going to morrisons normally bring about a collaspe? Dunno, this is the first match of the season and I was shopping at Somerfield last year. 78-5 ffs And yup, we did hang onto the old guard too long. Then again, Knight was still doing so well, so was Brown and Piper wasn't bad either. Bell's been a major loss. Also, he could well turn out to be the next big thing in coaching, but we have to bear in mind that this is Gilo's first season in charge, so there's that inexperience factor as well. One final point. Okay, we had Sangakkara last year and we've got Jayasauria (or however you spell it!) for the Twenty20, but what's happened to the calibre of the overseas players we used to attract? Lara, Pollock, Donald..........

I think Brown was a round one or two seasons too long tbh Pete - Piper was pretty good, and we resurrected Ambose's career and look where that got us Agree with you rpoint about overseas players - I had thought that with Donald on the staff we might have been able to get one or two high profile players but it doesn't seem that way. Yeah I know Gilo is only in his first season but I just can't see him being all that inspirational - he was a bit of a moaner a a player so....... Marathon not a sprint Gres

Good news Billy, rain (mis-read, haha) has stopped play! Essex meanwhile have won by 9 wickets.
