Great news as Hannah pointed out. Our first medal. Nicole Cooke wins gold in the womens road race. Extremely gruelling conditions in heavy rain causing a number of crashes & magnificent work from Emma Pooley on the climb to help her teammate Cooke (a former world junior champion in this event & the time trial). In the boxing welterweight Billy Joe Saunders floated round the ring picking off fancied Turk Ademi Killeci to secure a comfortabel points win & advance to the last 16. The other Saunders Bradley in the light welterweight Koed Ghanaian Samuel Kotey. The womens team archers Fokhard , Burgess & Williamson missed out by 1 score on the bronze to France. Disappointing from Williamson the oldest most experienced member who cost her team dear & admitted as much. Womens gymnastics the British team is currently sixth. Russia despite performing the best routines are only second as yet. In the rowing the womens quad sculls automatically made it to final where they have the beating of China.Germany should be the other medallists. The mens fours also did well against the Chinese and should be within a chance of a gold. The men & womens 8s had their qualifying heats rescheduled for tomorrow after torrential storms which affected the roadracing. Mary King despite William Fox-Pitts shocker to date has moved up to ninth in the 3 day eventing & is within a chance of a bronze. In the pool Joanne Jackosn chased down Katie Hoff in the 400m freestyle setting a huge PB & Rebecca Adlington was superb in the same event.Great medal chances. Liam Tancock was superb in the 100m backstroke.Definite medal contender. The mens 4x100m freestyle team shaved 5 seconds from the British record in qualifying for the final. Gemma Spofforth wa in the top 8 qualifiers for the womens 100m backstroke.Ross Davenport made the 200m freestyle. The lovely Hannah Miley was sixth in the 400m individiual medley when there was a chance of a bronze. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/swimming/7552098.stmWhy we have not taken Kirsty Coventry who has British parentage instead of competing for the shambles of Zimbabwe is a real shame. She took the silver. Badminton wise Tracy Hallam is into the last 16 winning two sets to love against Czech Kristina Ludikova. :0 Why Emms & Robertson have such a tough draw in the mixed is annoying. Is this a plan by the Chinese to eliminate what they fear as their toughest competition (aside from Kellogg & Clarke ?) Medals : Gold 1 Silver 0 Bronze 0

Disappointing defeat for the women in the field hockey a thumpimg 5-1 defeat Crista Cullen scoring the sole goal. Badminton Kellogg & Emms were beaten by the number two seeds Murray goes in the mens singles tomorrow. And after his sucess in the Masters beating Djokovic in the final who had beaten Nadal (Murray ran Nadal close the week before losing 6-7 4-6) a gold is quite possible. Womens artistic gymnastics Becky Downie made the final 24 for the all around & Tweddle made the asymmetric bars final. Russians were cheated again. One Chinese gymnast fell off the bars & was barely penalised & one turncoat who should be competing for Russia but has chased the dollar screwed up her dismount but was also barely penalised. China wil get the home decisions & golds in the men & womens here. Tomorrow sees Tom Daley in the mens synchronised 3m diving. Bit of a bizarre discipline to be honest. The womens pair of Sage & Gerrard finished & deservedly so last in their event. Would like to see more swimmers say they are disappointed by their performances instead of saying they are there for the experience. Come on show some more fight. 2012 seems a convenient excuse. Sailing wise Ainslie lies second overall in the Finn class .Firstspot for the three girls in the Yngling class Ayton,Webb & Wilson & top for the men Rhodes & Morrison in the 49ers. Looking good again for a nice medal haul. Medals : Gold 1 Silver 0 Bronze 0

I was just saying to Neil that I am not doubting the judging etc.. but I just get this feeling that the Chinese athletes are under more presure than anyone to perform well in their own Games. They always look petrified that they will lose and be in a whole load of trouble!!!

It does help if you are tall swimming wise & with huge feet to act as your propellers. Fantastic result this morning & well worth staying up for as AC mentioned. Adlington also has chances in the 800 medley. Elsewhere in the pool the sucess of Rebecca has been rubbing off. All our swimmers have made their semis with Hannah Miley impressing beating Reis & Coventry in the 200 IM. Spofforth made the 100m backstroke , Renwick the 200m frrestyle & Tancock the 200m backstroke. Michael Rock set another PB in his event the 200 fly. Caitlin McClachey looked good in the 200m freestyle & qualifies with a tired Joanne Jackson. A supremely crushing defeat & completely unexpected for Andy Murray losing to a no hoper . With Federer & Nadal cruising through he has to be ashamed of his lacklstre performance. No money in it for him. Shameful really. Tom Daly Plymouths finest finished last with partner Blake Aldridge but no tto worry by 2012 he will be even better & his best event is yet to come. GB mens hockeyteam cruised past Pakistan 4-2 Matt Daly sealing the win. In the kayaking C-1 David Florence has made his final & Campbell Walsh silver medallist from Athens has made the K-1 class. A pretty hairy course. Out at Shunyi the mens 8s crushed their opposition.Must be gold favourites .The womens 8s came behind the Yanks in and will have to go for the repercharge. Bourne-Taylor & Salisbury failed to make the final of the mens coxless pairs from the repercharge looking visibly exhausted but Elise Laverick & Anna Bebington made theirs comfortably & should be in medal contention this weekend. Out in the 3 day event Team GB put on an excellent show as numerous riders cam unstuck on a very demanding course timewise. Mary King is 5th overall in the individiual with the team of Fox-Pitt, Cook & Daisy Dick in bronze & with a chance of the silver tomorrow. Mens archery. Is this seeding fixed. They lost narrowly to China led by vet Simon Terry but how as world second seeds did theynot end up playing Malaysia for instance ? Andy Smith crashed out in the last 32 of the badminton to his German opponent . After all the funding this sort of lackadaisical effort should not be tolerated. Tracy Hallam is still playing. Windsurfing ? Not to sure about its inclusion but we have Dempsey lying in third after three races while the real sailing sees Ainslie winning both races today to take a clear lead in the Finn clas. Looks nailed for gold. Medals : Gold 2 Silver 0 Bronze 1

Tracey Hallam is out as well. So a piss poor performance in the singles. Dont we have a national performance centre for this sport ? Hopefully the Murray brothers can win their match & make some progress. Everyone has to do their utmost to contribute to Team GBs medal haul. We've gifted medals in the archery already & Andy had a super shot at getting to the quarters & who knows beat Nadal. Then again maybe not.

I've just watched that Badminton game at the gym, she got a bit trounced didn't she bless her. Bit annoying though as they are all saying that Tom Daly's games are over but he has his individual rounds to go at the end of the week, but I hate to say it, those Chinese divers are on top form Goooooooo Tom!!!

The Chinese have made some errors but they are not being deducted. Homers from the judges. Same in the artistic gymnastics. Tom's best event is yet to come. I reckon he can sneak a silver. So composed, intelligent & mature for such a young lad. Makes you proud to be British & a Devonian.

Well if I was a Devonian I would be - but I am Cornish!!! No the lad is doing ok, but his diving partner has blamed him for their loss and that he was nervous and wasn't concentrating!! What a cheek. Not being funny but who the heck is he to blame someone else, thought it was a team effort and a partnership!!?!?!? You mean to say that that Aldridge bloke wasn't nervous and didn't feel like throwing up at the top of that board? I very much doubt it - the bloke needs to get a grip and maybe take some of the blame for both of them coming last - in a team event!!! They came last out of 8 so its not like they were 4th and just out of the top 3 is it?? I think that that Aldridge bloke is jealous of Tom and all the attention and also that Tom is in individual heats as well and he's not, not sure if thats his choice or heaven forbid - he's just not good enough himself!!! The lad is 14 and should be being supported by his colleagues not put down by them!!! ooohhhh that man has made me so mad!!!
