indeed it can Master of Puns. This is an article from Tim Vickery an expert on South American football , now residing in the salubrious surrounds of Rio regarding Dios 'Hand Of God' and his take on it. www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/timvickery/2008/11/maradona_unfairly_labelled_a_c.htmlFair call I'd say. Plus the unwarranted sending off of Boca legend Antonio Rattin in 66 for no reason at all . If you ever watch the '82 WC where Brazil were the best team, Socrates, Falcao, Zico, Junior etc etc a player like Gentile the thug would have been sent off every game in todays game. People want to see skill not thuggery on the pitch , though the odd Battle Of Santiago does provide an entertaining diversion at times. ;D

Just forgot to say Maradona met Mascherano at the Liverpool training ground yesterday (also having a word with young starlet Gerardoi Bruna).
Maradona wants Masche to lead the side but Masche refused saying he is not the man. My choice would fall on Gonzalo if they ever pick him.

Mascherano as a captain would be VERY worrying

Masche would be fine with me . At the top level who is captain should not matter. Everyone should be their own captain. Diegos first selection. Saldy no Gonzalo or Garay but a very slow backline and no Higuain or Cavenaghi or Zarate but Licha Lopez instead. No Monzon or Zabaleta means the useless Papa will be called up. Angeleri deserves a go. GK: Juan Pablo Carrizo, Sergio Romero DF: Nicolás Burdisso, Fabricio Coloccini, Martín Demichelis, Daniel Díaz, Gabriel Heinze, Javier Zanetti MF: Ángel Di María, Fernando Gago, Luis González, Jonás Gutiérrez, Javier Mascherano, Maximiliano Rodríguez, José Sosa FW: Sergio Agüero, Germán Denis, Lisandro López, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Carlos Tévez

José Sosa Sosa has played six minutes this season MR. Biglia (Pirlo type deep playmaker at Anderlecht) and the sublimely gifted but temperamental Ever Banega (Atletico) should have been ahead of him IMO. Sosa has wasted two years at Bayern effectively. Even Cristian Ledesma at Lazio is more deserving.

Cavenaghi scored again . Hope he gets to move . Either Liverpool or Tottenham are very interested. We have two top class 9s but they are not being used. Diego Milito another hattrick for Genoa and Zarate again.

The circus continues. Maradona has threatened to resign.
He has not even been appointed .He wants Oscar Ruggieri as assistant a man who called the AFA head and rightly so grondona a mafioso.
Grondona refuses hence the threat to resign. Its a battle of egos with the interests of the NT second.
Bilardo phlegmatic as ever says Maradona will not resign. Its a complete farce, pantomime whatever you want to call it. Only in Argentina.
Hopefully as with the rugby team who kicked out the corrupt administrators a campaign can be mounted to kick Grondona and his sons and cronies out of the AFA.

News for Pete an ardent follower of Peru. FIFA have suspended Peru from all international competition after a long-running feud with the government of the country. The general secretary of the South American Football Association, Eduardo Deluca, announced on Monday that Peru will be suspended from all international competition after a conflict with the Peruvian government. Peru will be expelled from the South American World Cup qualifiers, because Arturo Woodman, the president of the Instituto Peruano del Deporte, has refused to recognize Manuel Burga as the FPF president. Only in South America. Yet another pantomime. Several players are still suspended from NT duty after their partying throughout Copa 2007.

Cheers GB, that's great! Hoping to go out there again hiking mid August to early September and they've got a home qualifier against Chile two days after that expedition ends. I've gotta go to the match methinks.
