Shopgirl - 4/10 A story about a girl (Claire Danes) who (believe it or not) works in a department store, and attracts the attention of two very different men. One, a loser (Jason Shwartzman), the other (Steve Martin) a highly successful businessman with 'intimacy issues'. It's essentially a dull, romantic drama featuring non-existent chemistry between Martin and Danes, a near redundant sub-plot involving Schwartzman, and little of any real interest. Adapted from his own novel, Steve Martin appears to believe this is a profound and worthy work, and uses one of the most nauseating voice-overs EVER to reinforce his message. A mediocre, pretentious and dull film, that actually says very little and takes a long time to do so.

A messy murder and primiscuous, gratuitous sex - what better way pass time on a Sunday Damn right, so you've seen it? What would you rate it? Probably a strong 7/10, no directorial masterpiece or stunning acting, more of a documentary feel to it. Plays mostly on shock value - drugs, sex, violence (I'm sure the Daily Mail would call for it to be banned ), the sort film that horrifies parents. If you've seen Larry Clark's debut, 'Kids', you'll know what to expect.

Bully 8/10. Quality film, little wrong with it. One of the most real, realistic films I've ever seen, like when they actually kill him, half of them chicken out and run away, which is totally what would happen in real life. It was based on a fact-based story, so that may explain it a bit.
The fact that they especially the girl who planned it was so fucking incredibly stupid and indiscreet by telling everyone all the details and shouting it out for all to hear, was hard to believe. But people are stupid so maybe thats true.
Just a note, that guy Donny was pretty funky, I liked the fact he was totally mellow and a little crazy (a bit like me), but not like me in the fact that he was a total Junkie hard drug taker, a murderder, and the way he looked. But a bit of comic releif none the less.
Good film, watch it!

I didn't think any of the Scary Movie films were that good - I mean, they had the occasional funny moment here and there, but I guess they're just not my style.

I know people who like Wayan's Brothers' films, which are fairly successful, but I cry at the thought of watching them. If all the decent bits from the 4 Scary Movies were condensed into one film I'd still be disappointed I'm afraid.

The Terminal
5/10
Quite charming in places..but there was nothing more too it. A guy stuck in an airport cos his country has no status therefore his visa isn't valid. So what?

Inside Man - 6/10 Fairly standard heist movie, but with an 'A' list cast (Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor) and director (Spike Lee). Snappily directed, and well acted it adds some fresh ideas on the process of the robbery, and keeps you intrigued as to the robbers' true plans and motives. Would've scored more highly but for the final 20 minutes which focused on the investigation in the aftermath. The film tailed off a little at this stage, and the decision to conclude the story with villain lecturing on morality seemed a little absurd, never mind unnecessary (dealing with the Nazis to profit from the holocaust was bad, REALLY???....er, thanks Spike ). I'd like to think most directors could credit the public with enought inteligence, not to think that they need to be spoonfed such information.

Latest from the fickle odeon... She's The Man (2/10) Why the hell did I rent this in the first place Anyway, this is your standard teen flick 'interpretation' of Twelfth Night. The story of a girl who disguises herself as a boy for a fortnight with the aim of making the school football team, and thus proving a point that girls are as good as boys at football etc etc...... The premise is not particularly credible, the story predictable beyond all reason, the characters stereotypes, and the laughs....WHAT LAUGHS? The lead (Amanda Bynes) tries her heart out but with material this lame , never has a chance. So bad that 'Bend It Like Beckham' would benefit through comparison.
