I saw The Black Dahlia the other night.
I'd give it a 6/10.
The plot was a bit muddled and the acting was a bit over the top.
It was only saved, from my point of view, by seeing Josh Hartnett's naked torso a few times!
The lesbian porno section might sell it to the male viewer though....

Half Light - starts well, but goes downhill and loses it's way somewhat. Had an awful lot of potential to be quite a creepy, psychologically tense movie, but doesn't quite pull it off. Quite entertaining but not one to watch more than once. Rent it rather than buy it if you want to see it. Derry Moore looks amazing though.

Dreamcatcher - 4/10 I can only assume they put the book (by Stephen King) down about halfway through and decided to do their own thing, because they totally butchered it - they didn't even include the bit about why the dreamcatcher is so relevant! Up to the middle, it was pretty good though!

King Of Comedy - 8/10
Good stuff, really shows a differnt side to De Nero's acting. I'd recommend it.

Superman Returns - 4/10 It would have got 3, but the copy was bad and we developed a new game, which was 'spot the person coming back from the toilets at the bottom of the screen'. Apart from that, the efeects were predictably good, Spacey was a good baddie if annoying, and the rest was typically predictable stuff. The Spiderman films are both better I think.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (saw it at the cinema back in '03 but thought I'd catch it on TV)
8 / 10 - surprisingly good, better than most remakes (witness the wretched likes of Psycho, The Lady Killers, Get Carter etc). Very very gruesome in places, but if that offends you then frankly you shouldn't be watching a film with the words 'chainsaw' and 'massacre' in the title!

The Night Listener.
6/10
Really good plot - based on a true story.
Acting was good! Robin Williams is great.
The ending was a bit rudhed though. It was only 1 hour and a half and when the ending came it suprised me..I was left thinking..is that it?

Mean Creek 7/10 I liked it but it lack a few things.
It's a film about a few kids who have a problem with a bully and sort him out on a boating trip. It's a film that is NOT for kids I might add.

You've had a good day or two LL, King of Comedy and Mean Creek both quality films. Mind you, it's conventional wisdom that it's impossible to find a Scorsese/De Niro collaboration that's anything less than fantastic.

Thats true, what do you think about that new Scorsese film coming out? I've forgotten what it's called but it's got Leo DeCaprio and Mark Wallburg in it.

If you have sky movies you should see it at some point if you look through all the channels.

Shooting Dogs - 8/10
British films about the Rwandan genocides in 1994. Tells the story of a U.N. base where 2500 Tutsis come for shelter and protection following a Hutu coup to seize control of the country.
Very scathing of the U.N. and their refusal to acknowledge (officially at least) what was happening. It climaxes when further military personnel are brought in, not as reinforcements or fight the protagonists and murderers, but to escort the Europeans safely from the site to the airport, leaving the Tutsis to face certain death at the hands of the Hutu militia.
Not a 'Saturday night in' film. Harrowing and haunting.

It's called 'The Departed', out on October 6th, I think. I'll certainly be going to see it. Trailer looks promising. Don't know if you've seen it, but it's a remake of 'Infernal Affairs', a hugely successful film from Hong Kong (think it became a trilogy). Enjoyed Infernal Affairs myself, although it's pretty complex story to follow, about a gangster and a police officer who take on false identities.
