American PsychoI'll never get that 2 hours of my life back. Please watch the film again Ads and tell me what the hell happened in it. Gruesome especially the chainsaw scene I can't give it score because I didn't understand it. ? out of 10 Have you read the book??

Nope but I've heard it's even more gruesome. It is pretty gruesome, but I think if you've not read the book then the film would seem quite disjointed!!

‘Almost Famous’
I’ll level with you here, I love this film. It’s pretty much the best film made about rock music ever.
The film tells the story of William Miller, a slightly awkward but passionate kid growing up in the era of Sabbath, Humble Pie, Led Zep et al. He blags a backstage meeting with fictional outfit Stillwater (whose lead singer is played by Jason ‘My Name Is Earl’ Lee) and after a meeting with famous journo Lester Bangs manages to fool Rolling Stone in paying him to go on tour with them.
What happens next is a perfectly soundtracked, touching ride through 70s excess, unrequited love and the importance of family and friendship. Try and catch it sometime!
9/10

The whole rock star 'God complex' cliche thing at the party was just hilarious too, especially the sheepish looks the morning after when the coach rolls up. ;D You know what happened last time you did that Tom........remember karma!! ;D Besides, I bought the 3-disc edtion - same 2 dvds plus a Stillwater CD - in a nice little gatefold pack from the States a few years back, so that nugget of info doesn't hurt too much!

Yes I'll probably see them giving away Metallica's 'Black Album' at Central Station or Faith No More's 'The Real Thing' with copies of 'Heat' if I'm not careful.
That sounds wicked! I should look out for more cool imports, a mate was telling me about a very nice 'Pan's Labyrinth' set that he has.

The 'I'M GAY' bit on the plane cracks me up too. Especially when the pilot flings the door open to really exacerbate what he has just done ;D

It comes in the form of the book that Ofelia is given, and has a nice little bookmark with it too? A very limited number of them were sold in Asia and I got 2 at £15 a piece on one website that included a new members discount. Kept one, sold the other for £35 on eBay! ;D

I think it was actually Spanish mate, but he did tell me in the pub in the middle of a session so that's subject to debate.

Must have been a hell of a start to life to actually get that journo gig though. Suppose if he wasn't to have become a film director then there weren't many other careers that offered a forward step! I think I'm right in saying that his missus (Nancy Wilson of Heart) composed the menu music on the SE DVD too.

The Dark Knight (or should that be Batman Big-Grins?)
Quite inevitably the Hollywood hype machine claimed it's latest victim last night and left me feeling a little bit empty after what was ostensibly a truly excellent snapshot of the Superhero world.
In the interests of fairness I can only really fill you in on how the film starts. Bruce Wayne is still fulfilling his alter ego as Batman much to the chagrin of the Mob, and finds a more publicly acceptable ally in the form of hot shot lawyer Harvey Dent. However Gotham City is under attack from a motiveless terrorist who leaves a Joker card as his calling card and Wayne is soon drawn into a shocking battle of wits that sets things up nicely for a third instalment.
The 'dark side of the hero' riff is nothing new, and the thinly veiled metaphor for the war on terror is all too clear but it's rarely handled this well. Bale, Ledger and Oldman are all at the top of their game but I found Maggie Gyllenhall's Rachel a little wooden. Some of the set pieces are quite spectacular, just you wait for the Gotham Hospital scenes, and the car chase with the juggernaut.
I would have loved to have seen this with no expectations but such is life in the film world that we are unable to do this.
Even so, it's a new entry in my top Superhero films of all time and worthily so.
8/10

The Seventh Seal
I'd not seen this for years!! I referenced it the other day when talking to Trav, and low and behold it suddenly appears on Film 4. It's much mooted as Ingmar Bergmans masterpiece, and definitely is layered with multiple levels of angst and doubt. Covering life, death, and the existence of God it's a fascinating film. Most will know it as the inspiration for the bit in Bill & Teds Bogus Journey when they play various games against Death. In the Seventh Seal the game is strictly limited to chess (who knows he may have won at hopscotch), and the man playing Death knows ultimately he will lose. It's not light or frothy, but it's a great film and worth a watch.
8.5/10
