A mate of mine bought a house in south east London about 6 years ago for £70k and sold it a year ago for £295k. She bought another house for the same and has it up for sale now for £400k.
£330k profit in 7 years. Not bad.

We live in an affordable part of the UK, and I'm not afraid to admit it! Stafford Average Cost: £190,414 Detached: £270,140 Semi-detached: £167,177 Terraced: £139,622 Flat: £121,774 ;D However, we used to live here... Kingston Upon ThamesAverage Cost: £368,634 Detached: £737,424 Semi-detached: £429,453 Terraced: £329,272 Flat: £249,702 Small wonder we moved Hopefully, the addition of the new drive will have added to the value of mine ;D Valued at £185,000 before when me any the missus were looking at possible sale (advised to accept offers over £170,000 though)with view to taking the next step on the ladder. To be honest will probably sit tight now - maybe extend - and sell up once mortgage is paid and sod off abroad with a healthy sum!

Terraced: £2,487,208 That's the average for a terrace house in Kensington the most expensive place in the world. My terrace house in central Reading is only worth £300,000

My terrace house in central Reading is only worth £300,000 Terraced houses are for gypos Not when they are Edwardian, in a conservation area, with a drive for 3 cars, 80ft cottage style garden, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, sitting room, dining room, study and 17ft kitchen. In fantastic condition and one of only a select few properties within 10 mins walk of all the city centre amentities that is: a) A house not a flat so has a private garden. b) Has parking. Many flats do not have a parking space. I have 3!

£300,000 - boo hoo. Remember, we live in the South, our properties are worth vastly more than they oughta be anyway. Three car parking spaces is an abomination! I presume conservation area status doesn't extend to requiring a front garden in the cutesy "cottage-style" paradise that is central Reading!

I have a lovely cottage style front garden and a little gravel drive which can fit 3 cars. Working in Transport in London makes one rabidly anti-car... my apologies. Sounds rather nice, if I may say so!

I rarely use the car except at weekends. I probably spend about £30 a month on petrol.

I need it to go food shopping and to take Isaac on journeys which are too far to walk with him. An allegedly "well-toned" chap like yourself ought to be able to manage a few bags of shopping! As for l'il Isaac, I recommend a pushchair. These devices are relatively cheap (compared with a car) and have no costs in terms of fuel, road tax, insurance - plus are carbon neutral dontcha know! You can even take them on THE BUS! ;D
