As john Lennons Imagine drifts around the Stade Velodrome at halftime its 1-0 to Argentina. Jonas Gutierrrez scoring at the enbar post from an Aguero cross dg back across the box. And against the run of play. Carizzo has been the busier keeper saving well at the feet of Anelka and blocking a wickedly deflected shot. Its been a tetchy game with niggly fouls coming from the French who have chased hard to cut down the time on the ball. Heinze and Papa have been awful in defence slicing clearances and not picking up opponents. Where is Monzon and Gonzalo ? Messi when he has had the ball has been dangerous. But for nearly twenty minutes the bal was France's. He and Aguero teamed up to give Messi a clear oppurtunity as he beat two defenders but straight at Mandanda. A deft pass in between two defenders to Papa teed up Masche who nlazed wide. Only after the goal have Argentina been in control. Argentina need a physical presence upfront as thety have no playmaker a la Riquelme to dictate the pace of the game but no one has been chosen ie Denis or Cavegol. Nice to see how the Algerians are integrating well in France. When not rioting in the cities they like to wave their national flag inn the stadium and hurl insults at the French team.

Full time Argentina 2-0 France. ;D Magic see the second. From a French corner Tevez picked the ball up and set up Messi who waltzed past Gallas and tucked his left foot shot neatly in the corner. Clinical. However that was their only chance during the second half. France created precious little either with Benzema coming on for Anelka on the hour mark. Carizzo erred on one cross but did well. Dimichelis and Zanetti were supreme at the back ,Gago had Diarra in his pocket but Aguero was also disappointing. Granted he showed flashes of brilliance with the ball at his feet but he was static ,and did not run off the ball enough. Tevez should have been on far earlier did more in his ten minutes in workrate than Sergio. Angeleri came on late and did precious little as the Argentine fans oled each pass. Papa and Heinze need to be removed from the NT. Gonzalo and Monzon as far superior replacements. It was a proper game as far as friendlies go. Just the three subs but both sides have a lot to improve upon. Hopefully Serbia knock France out of qualification and Argentina with upcoming games against Venuzuela and Bolivia should still qualify with ease. Nice goal from Villa. The ease on the ball is nice to see. Poor error from Jags eh ? Another one cap wonder (don't like caps for friendlies) ?

Carrick should have got that ball How ? Once a Blade always a Blade ? Llorente coming on at last. This is one that Spurs should go for. Eire beat Georgia in their WCQ. Two for Captain Keane. Xavi and Iniesta are a joy to watch the eay they interact.

Absolutely awful so far - we cannot pass a ball more than 5 yards to one of our own team....shocking!
Its a sad reflection on the state of our game when the best XI we can put out includes Downing, Jagielka and Ashley Cole.
