With the amount of money the government has put into this, i would like to see results (after all, i work for their training equipment)....and i think if we manage the 41 medals set by the government, i personally would be happy, if not, id seriously question the worthyness of us holding the games next time around (bare in mind...theres never been an olympic games that has made a direct profit). But congratulations to everyone in Team GB so far....they are doing good!

and as i put this, i find out Team GB has wont a 12th gold medal
"GB storm to gold in team pursuit The Great Britain men's team pursuit team destroyed Denmark to win the gold medal in a new world record time of three minutes 53.314 seconds.
Bradley Wiggins, Paul Manning, Geraint Thomas and Ed Clancy produced a scintillating ride to break their own record and beat the Danes by 6.7secs.
They led from start to finish, securing Britain's 11th cycling medal of the Beijing Games and sixth track gold.
It lifted Team GB back into third place in the medal table above Australia."

Saw this next to the BBC's live feed...made me laugh!
"I'm sure I just saw the scoreboard operator applauding one of the shots in the table tennis. Surely that's not very professional. You wouldn't get that with Carol Vorderman." ;D

Another sucessful day with 2 more medals & two more guaranteed for tomorrow. On the waves at Qingdao Paul Goodison,a Blades fan, in the Laser needs to only finish last or avoid drowning against his Swedish opponent to take gold. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/sailing/7567682.stmSilver for the 470 men Rogers & Glanfield as at Athens & hopefully gold in 2012. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/sailing/7567372.stmNick Demspey lies second in the mens windusrfing RSX class but Bryony Shaw is 6th two points off medal so fingers crossed. The Mixed Tornado are last in their class letting the side down whilst the female 470ers led by Penny Clark could only finish 6th overall. The Star class sailors have a chance to win later thsi week currently lying 6th overall b ut only two points off silver placed France. Magnificent day again at the Laoshan velodrome. The mens team pursuiters shattered their own WR crushing the Danes. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/cycling/7567845.stmIn the womens points race a visibly tired Romero could only manage 11th but bearing in mind this is not her discipline and only second race in the evnt she can be excused. Hertfordshires very won superheroine the lovely Victoria Pendleton has her eyes set firmly on the gold in the sprint. She eased through today against her Lithuanian opponent , her main rival being a young Chinese rider. Hoy & Kenny remain on course to reach the finals of the mens sprint. Hoy having an interesting tussle with young Malaysian Awang ,holing up on yhe banking for 30 seconds which resulted in a restart as both riders jckeyed for position. Sadly no womens keirin for Pendleton to win which seems odd. It has been removed from the Olympics schedule. In the synchronised swimming Randall & Allison are last unsurpisingly. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/swimming/7568038.stmDiving wise Ben Swain failed to make the 3m springboard finals leaving Tom Daley as the sole remaining hope for any diving sucess. At the canoeing park former Olympic medallist Tim Brabants was fastest in the 0.5k K1 class making the finals with ease. Later this week he will be in action for the 1k K1 class. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/canoeing/7567526.stmDavid Price secured a bronze in the super-heavyweight division his Lithuanian opponent succumbing to a pulled quad femoris. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/boxing/7568551.stmHe faces World Champion Italian Robbie Cammarelle who was less than stellar in his win. Nice choice of music at the boxing hall 'When the sun hits your eyes thats amore'. Stereotyping the Italian ? In the athletics Sarah Claxton just amde the 100m hurdles final. Like Ziang in the mens one of the favourites Susanna Kallur fell in the semi. The triple jumo qualifiers saw Idowu & Achike qualify for the final with ease. Rooney & Steele also eased into the 400m semis. Allan Scott & Andy Turner made the 110m hurdles semis too but that should be about the limit of it. And disappointment for Greg Rutherford in the long jump finishing tenth with a very poor jump of 7.84m. Even an average jump for him would have secured a medal. In the womens triathlon having watched the World Championships Helen Tucker who I though would do well did amazingly badly on the day coming 21st. A pity we are only allowed two competitors as a couple of the unlucky triathletes to miss out could have done better. Tuckers main rivals in teh world series this year all medalled. A pretty poor cop out from Tucker today. In the gym the Flying Pig Beth Tweddle performed the most technical routine but a missed pirouette & some misaligned catches & a poor dismount cost her marks. Why she bothered I do not know as its quite obvious the homer judging is designed to give the Chinese an almost clean sweep, when they are by no means any superior to the likes of Russia or even the Yanks. The best result for Team GB since Antwerp 1920 with more medals to come. On the fairer points scheme we would lie equal fourth behind China,Usa,Russia & tying with Oz who have all their best disciplines nearly gone. Medals : Gold 12 Silver 7 Bronze 8

Just forgot to add it was the end of the road for the grammar girls in the womens hockey. A rather dull 0-0 game with some lucky scrambles for Team GB. It has to be said like the mens team that they lack the flair needed to bring a medal. Times have moved on from the era of Jane Sixsmith & co. Competence alone wont win a medal.

I think that puts us back in third in the medal table which is outstanding because we can't possibly be any higher. A small nation like ours will never beat 1 billion+ people in China or 350 million in the US so we can treat third as first for us really. Quite fantastic. I think while we support Britain we can support who ever is against Austrailia too to keep them behind us. If we stay in third place I couldn't be more proud of the country, Austrailia swept up in the swimming but I don't think they're as good at the athletics so hopefully that's a chance to keep them at bay. Just before that World Record race won by Great Britian ;D I was supporting New Zealand against Austrialia to prevent them from getting a bronze. I really hate to be a dick my bray BUT................ I'm not sure where you are getting your medal count from. You guys are in 5th !! As of 8/19, 2:37 PM ET COUNTRY .....GOLD .....SILVER .....BRONZE .....TOTAL 1. United States 23 ..........24 ...........26 .............. 73 2. China ...........39 ..........14 ...........15 .............. 68 3. Russia ............8 ..........13 ...........15 .............. 364. Australia .......11 ..........10 ............12 ............. 33 5. Great Britain ..13 ...........7 ..............8 ............. 28

If you want the official medal count its here results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtmlAs ITFC said, it goes by golds, then silvers, then bronzes. Not the total amount of medals. So if two countried both have 13 golds, the country with more silvers would be above....etc kinda like goal difference.

Golds are what matters because effectively silver is the first loser. So China have won the most events with USA second and Great Britain third!

To quote a genius film " Ricky Bobby: If you ain't first, you're last. You know, you know what I'm talking about? [to television camera] Ricky Bobby: That there is trademarked, not to be used without written permission of Ricky Bobby, Inc."
