Nigeria beat I vory Coast 2-0 Argentina needed extra time against Holland with Messi & di Maria securing the win. Gerald Sibon for all Wednesdayites was brought on as a late sub for the Dutch. Aguero was less tha sparking missing two chances which he would normally have tucked away. The win sets upa semi-final clash with Brazil whilst Nigeria take on surprise package Belgium. It also means Sulemanye Bamba should be on his way to Watford by Monday.

Women semis. Brazil 4-1 Germany USA 3-1 Japan The same final from 2004. Brazil have really upped their womens game in the last decade against the former superpower of the game. Japan took the lead through Ohno but slack defending let the US back into the game. Heather Reilly's effort for the third a la Steinsson v Stoke was dreadful keeping. Laughable. Mind you the Japanese keeper is only 5'5". I reckon a Unibond Premier team could make both sides look very ordinary. Also saw one of the great hairdos of the womens game. Eriko Arakawa came on as a sub late on & must win the title hairdo of the tournament.

OG's Gold Medal Picks: Mens Gold Medal winner: Brazil Womens Gold Medal winner: USA ........ put it down my bray's !!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Nigeria thrashed Belgium 4-1. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/7570309.stmArgentina crushed the enemy Brazil 3-0. Sweet revenge for the dirty cheating swines display last summer. Kun Aguero with 2 & a penalty from Roman. Magical Messi & Masche was immense & if Wenger was watching he might be sorely tempted to purchase di Maria who was sensational. Mind you Brazil had their moments hitting the woodwork twice & Pato's goal at 2-0 was marginally onside. But the referee Vasquez took none of their dirty fouling shite & rightfully sent off two of their players Lucas & Neves. I'm sure Benitez must be pleased by the awful hack of Lucas on Mascherano who had run nearly the whole pitch. Party time in Buenos Aires & adios Dunga Dung Beetle. ;D news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/football/7570781.stm

But the referee Vasquez took none of their dirty fouling shite & rightfully sent off two of their players Lucas & Neves. Maybe a case for the Lucas sending off as the boot was high, but the second red, if that was a straight red, looked very harsh. There could be no arguments for a yellow, but a straight dismissal looked over the top in my humble opinion.

Perhaps Pete but they had been fouling all game as they did last summer in the Copa so it was a bit of justice. Socrates ,Falcao & Junior would be horrified by the presence of three defensive midfielders in that formation. Perhaps Brazil can return to their footballing roots. The Brazilian public are fed up with Dunga & the team. Anyway the final sees Argentina retain the title with a 1-0 win over a very tough Nigerian team. Not blessed with great skill but certainly pace & physique & needing a great save from Romero & some rather panicky defending at times to keep them out. However Aguero had a clear cut penalty denied early on. Messi as ever created the winning goal for hot prospect di Maria perhaps on his way to Real Madrid if Robinho moves to Chelsea. The heat up to 38 celsius on the pitch did not help either. With a few judicious additions ie Cavenaghi , Tevez , Gonzalo Rodriguez & Demichelis, Ansaldi & Carizzo in goal Argentina are well on their way to another tilt at the world title. Not bad though Olympic & world u20 champions. ;D ;D
