Go and watch the actual speech, or at least the highlights of it. 'Well-spoken' isn't the issue; it's the fact that he can deliver a speech in a powerful and convincing manner, and actually had the guts to stand up and risk fluffing his lines instead of reading monotonously from a script or orating in a manner that's frankly laughable. Given the situation he was delivering it in, under such high pressure (let's be honest, delivering a speech to the nation is a little different to a boardroom meeting or a play with a few hundred viewers), I thought he did an applause-worthy job. ....... meh ........ Anthony Hopkins for PM it is then!! ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) As for the Eton thing; stop being so bloody classist ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I'll give you his own words on that: Be honest with yourself; playing the Eton card was a bit of a petty swipe, wasn't it? ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Politics is the petty swipe game Neko ........ where sincerity is just manufactured tool to win your vote!! ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Until other politicians make a regular thing of it, I'll treat it as something special. Any professional speaker would tell you that he delivered the speech the way they should be, so why don't other politicians? Maybe because they can't, or they're too worried about messing it up? The man at least showed a spine, being able to deliver it like that. Why the stubborn refusal to applaud a man who does his job properly? So someone having a good education is a bad point in a leader? Jade Goody for PM then? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

It's hardly his fault that he got sent to a good school - frankly, I'd have thought a good education was a requisite trait of a PM regardless of where he got it, and he has one! What's the issue?

You're trying to compensate for the privilege of your public school education. Must be even more terrible as you now earn above the national average wage, Jules accept who you are a Tory in disguise ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ;D

I'm also in touch with my roots. I have seen the continuing effects of Thatcher's EVIL FUCKING GOVERNMENT against people I care about, and their friends, and their friends' friends - and the families of those friends. As it happens my family would have struggled to afford the fees to attend a public school - though they considered it - but I'm glad I didn't go to one, as I would have probably emerged from that sort of place as a selfish, mindless bigoted individual whose only goal in life was unnecessary levels of wealth by whatever means necessary. But have your little joke, very good... ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) Incidentally it's funny how being over the national average wage I'm still pretty much penniless by the end of the month living in this city, anyone would think the house prices were a chronic injustice against ordinary people - but keep buying-to-let won't you? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

I have seen the continuing effects of Thatcher's EVIL FUCKING GOVERNMENT against people I care about, and their friends, and their friends' friends - and the families of those friends. On a serious note, it's entirely conceivable that I'll be saying that about this government in fifteen years' time, regarding the insane amount of debt that poor financial management has allowed to build up. Time will tell, mind, but when the housing market eventually comes down (and it will, be it gliding or crashing), lots of people are going to be in a lot of trouble - just look at the problems being encountered with a relatively small rise in interest rates already.

![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) BBC's attitude in a nutshell right there. Until other politicians make a regular thing of it, I'll treat it as something special. Any professional speaker would tell you that he delivered the speech the way they should be, so why don't other politicians? Maybe because they can't, or they're too worried about messing it up? I'm more interested in what's said, than how it's said or presented. It like the old Eddie Izzard skit about singing that US national anthem ...... no one knows the words but as 60% of people reaction to you is down to how you look, 30% down to how you sound and only 10% is based on what you actually say. So basically if you look and sound convincing, it does really matter what comes out of you mouth. It was a novel approach, but nothing more ........ it had very little substance!! The man at least showed a spine, being able to deliver it like that. Why the stubborn refusal to applaud a man who does his job properly? How did he should spine?? By speaking well in public?? It's his job!! Sadly the only way you find out if someone is a good leader, is by allowing them to lead you So someone having a good education is a bad point in a leader? Jade Goody for PM then? ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) I'm not saying having a good education is a bad point in a leader, more that the way he spun it was quite Blair-esque!! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) You may mock Neko but if the chavs rise up then 'Goody will be their queen!! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D

I think you need well over £30k a year here plus a decent amount of equity - assuming you'd want to buy a property and live here. More flippantly I'm sure all would welcome you down yur! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Oh and obviously there are pros and cons of London in many other ways but I'm sure you're aware of both!

I'll ask again; why don't other politicians dare do it? It may just be him doing his job properly, but at least he is! Well as you liked it and I presume others will have as well, so that'll feed back into 'focus groups'. So soon they'll all be doing it ..... then you'll be sorry!! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ;D It was more a stylistic choice than an inspirational decision. He'd have learnt the whole thing parrot fashion, even down to to the tone. I think the only way I'd be fantastically impressed by a politician speaking in public is if they just stood there and said 'ask me anything, and I'll answer it' ......... after that point everything is of form of affectation!!
