Sunshine
I didnt know what to expect when watching this film, but was pleasantly suprised with it, an epic science fiction film that adds dashes of suspense throughout. A group of 8 embark on a mission to re-ignite the sun with disastrous happenings to many of the crew members, a film which uses music, range of speed and lighting, to make you feel involved, this really is one of the best science fiction thriller films i've seen.
8/10

ADRIFT. A group of smug, beautiful beefcakes and bimbos all meet up for a re-union on a friends yacht. For a while everything is 'just swell' as they party and flaunt their teeth, their tits and their tackle, but then when they all impulsively decide to go for a swim, nobody remembers to lower the ladders, and when they can't get back on the boat.....panic!!!!! Doh!!! Strikingly familiar to Open Water which proceeded it a year earlier, this film can only but aspire to achieve such levels of adequacy. Apparently those on the trip are successful professionals in their fields, yet somehow manage to make the archetypal group of dumb teens from your average slasher flick look like Mensa graduates. These people obviously don't specialise in spotting the 'bleedin' obvious'. Apparently 'based on a true story', although as it only appears that a baby, locked up securely in a cabin survived......it would seem apparent that the scriptwriters have got to accept their share of the blame for this piece of crap after all. 3/10

Apparently the plot is implausible (certainly the sudden death of a star particularly a G type star) according to reviews which has put me off though the trailers looked interesting.

Implausability has never bothered me with films?? 28 days later was a great film, though the chances of it being factually correct are practically nil! I want to see this, if its half as good as 28 days later, it'll be a great watch!

curse of the golden flower latest film from Yimou Zhang (house of flying daggers, hero), with Yun-Fat Chow as the emperor. More in keeping with his earlier films with dialogue the driving forse with stunning visual effects of the palace, action part only really kicks in later in the film, but the battle scene is as good as anything in his last 2 films.
the basic premise is the emperor returns to the palace, where his 3 sons are and his estranged emperess, the family ties are grounded in plots and subplots over who knows what each other is up to, eventually leading to an attempted coup!
enjoyable film 7.9/10

A ROOM FOR ROMEO BRASS
Director Shane Meadows' second feature, and Paddy Considine's big screen debut, tells the tale of two working class boys, Gavin and Romeo, and the unlikely friendship they strike up with 20 year-old Morrell (Considine), a naive and eccentric stranger.
Initially, a warm and friendly acquaintance, Morrell entrusts the two kids to help him in his attempts to woo Romeo's older sister, Ladine. When Gavin betrays Morrell's trust, a new darker side emerges, and a Morrell's continued attempts to lure Ladine fails, his frustrations manifest themselves into genuine menace.
The film can be very much considered a sister piece for the brilliant Dead Man's Shoes. Again, Considine is exceptional; his character in the film is essentially an amalgam of the two brothers' characters in DMS; dark, comic and tragic. Add to that, two excellent child performances, sterling support and a terrific soundtrack, and you have another Meadows film that's well worth a look.
8/10
And briefly.......
THE BLACK DAHLIA
Immaculately presented, and as you'd expect from Brian De Palma, stylishly directed. And it's got Scarlett Johansson!!
Just a pity then that it's a bit dull.
5/10
