Watched a 2 hour historical prog about it the other night. Not really into Classical history but is was very good. Wonder how far from the truth the Hollywood version is. 300 got a copy on DVD (top quality copy btw) and really enjoyed it!! I would imagine the battle scenes would be awesome at the cinema, as they were top drawer on dvd, and the film is very 'arty' in the way it is filmed! Great action scenes, true (ish) story and for saying its acted by relative unknowns it was a thoroughly enjoyable film with some quite amusing one liners! Its always nice to learn something about History while seeing someones legs chopped off as well! 8/10 I'm not sure how close to the truth, but you get the general story etc My dad is clued up about the whole 'history' of it and said its not a million miles way from it!! Gotta see it mate!

Is that not were the 7/7 and 21/7 radical British Muslims hail from? Mischief Night. My step sister had rented it so we watched it last night. It's set in Leeds..in Beeston no less! I can't be bothered to write a synopsis so I'll let IMDB do it.... Everyone has Halloween but in Yorkshire, England they have Mischief Night – for one night only, madness and mayhem rule!
Tina Crabtree lives on the White side of the park with her three unruly children, Kimberly, Tyler and Macauley. On the Asian side lives Immie Khan with his lively family. As the clock ticks down to Mischief Night, the Crabtree’s and the Khan’s are unaware that their worlds are about to collide. In the course of one night, the barriers that separate both families come tumbling down in a blaze of crime, clubbing, love and fireworks – changing all their lives forever. It was quite funny and I liked that it was set in Leeds. There were a lot of stereotypes though. A Leeds shirt made a few appearances too 7/10

Children of Men
Me and my brother both wanted to see this when it was out in the cinema, but never got round to it. So glad that it was on Sky Box Office.
Really, I thought it was an incredible film, with a sci-fi story that is believable. Fantastic use of the hand held camera. So many themes touched upon, but I can't really go into them without going too far into the plot... Clive Owen was very good, and Michael Caine was the light hearted touch in a very miserable world.
Bit of an abrupt ending going into really cheery music, although the ending was happy-ish...
I'd give it an 8/10 and really recommend it, because it touches on so many themes and how humanity can be stupid sometimes. Wouldn't recommend it if you don't like lots of blood though...

The 300 were in fact Spartans who were backing up several thousand Athenians. After 2 days of fighting most of the Athenians retreated leaving the Spartans and around 1,000 Athenians. Not just 300 warriors. Watched a 2 hour historical prog about it the other night. Not really into Classical history but is was very good. Wonder how far from the truth the Hollywood version is. Athenians were good warriors tbh,but wanted Spartas help because of the overwhelming Persian numbers. Athens had already spanked the Persians about 10 years previous. But Spatans were crack troops. Just been reading up on it mate, and it estimates 250,000 - 500,000 persians and up to 7000 Greeks (300 spartans) though these arent mentioned in the film !! ;D it does say though that the spartans and a few others were the ones who stayed after dismissing the fellow greeks to go away and regroup! Still a great film, and accurate enough that you get the general idea of 'the underdog' etc - fuck it, i'm upping my score to 9/10! ;D

DELICATESSEN
Absurd, surreal, post apocalyptic black comedy (or something like that!), that tells the tale of a landlord of dilapidated apartment building, who finds a rather novel way of ensuring that his strange tennants get enough protein in a time of food scarcity. Regular newspaper adverts for caretakers not only ensure that everyday maintenance tasks are completed, but also that every fortnight or so, a fresh batch of meat is available to his customers.
Every bit a mad as it sounds, the film is amongst the most inventive you could see, with many clever visual touches, and an ingenious recurring theme surrounding one character's increasingly elaborate attempts to commit suicide. For those who have seen Juenet's recent works (Amelie, A Very Long Engagement), the look of the film will be very familiar, with the same common colours and shades dominating the scenes.
The inventiveness is certainly the film's strength. Even the fairly thin, albeit original plot cannot undermine matters. Not Juenet's deepest and most complete work, but great fun, all the same.
8/10

I agree with everyone else on this. It was fairly faithful to historical account and was absolutely visually stunning. The best film I've seen this year!!
10/10

the ladykillers - joel and ethan cohen version, basic premise is a group of criminals posing as muscians, getting together to rob a casino, using the basement of unsuspecting landlady, set in south us. tom hanks southern prof annoyed a bit but overall watchable film. 6.5/10
the ladykillers - original, with alec guinness and peter sellers, set in london, a better cast, played less for laughs and still entralling to watch, have seen at least 5 times i'd say. 8.5/10
