Superman Returns
A bit of a let down to be honest. Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey seemed content to emulate Chris Reeve and Gene Hackman as much as they could without injecting their own take on the characters and Kate Bosworth was utterly ineffectual and borderline irritating as Lois Lane.
No real big climax, just some guff about Lois' child being Supermans and supposed 'chemistry' between the two characters.
Really disappointing to be honest, Spiderman and Batman Begins are FAR worthier efforts
3/10

I found the film to be both essential and unbearable in equal measures, I'd dare see you'd find it to be the latter.

I think rape is the one thing I'm very very afraid of and the subject just makes me feel sick. What is it about Vincent Cassell??

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE
This relatively low budget indie flick, initially created a buzz at last years Sundance Festival, and has since go on to receive wider spread critical acclaim. It tells the story of a quirky, dysfunctional family and the road trip they embark upon to take 7 year old Olive to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant.
Typical of an indie flick, the main characters are offbeat in the extreme; the father (Greg Kinnear) is self proclaimed, driven 'winner', who just always happens to lose, Toni Colette as the mother, chain smokes and caters for meal times with fried chicken 'take outs', Steve Carrell plays the gay, ex-professor, straight out of hospital after a suicide attempt, the brother is 7 months into a vow of silence, while grandpa (Alan Arkin) is a sex mad, heroin addict. Only Olive, the girl at the centre of the film appears to be totally grounded.
With such a mix of characters the film was always likely to be either compelling or awful, thankfully the former is a more appropriate description. The tale is for the most part a mixture of the painfully funny (courtesy for the most part of an excellent Alan Arkin) and the downright painful. The film is not without it's problems, in fact when grandpa departs at the midway point, the story does begin to falter. However, a brave and commendable final act which critiques the whole beauty pageant movement completely redeems matters.
Watching the beauty pageant show, and seeing how the little girls were made to dress and look, and essentially sexualised, I found to be really quite distasteful and disturbing. In exposing the hypocrisy within the pageant movement, by deciding to have Olive outrage the judges through performing an overtly sexual routine, the film makers strike the strongest and most unarguable of points.
8/10

Yes, I remember the 'dorky' bloke in it, quite enjoyed it. Think it could have done with a bit more in the way of sniggering, childish innuendo, and penis euphamisms though.

300 got a copy on DVD (top quality copy btw) and really enjoyed it!! I would imagine the battle scenes would be awesome at the cinema, as they were top drawer on dvd, and the film is very 'arty' in the way it is filmed! Great action scenes, true (ish) story and for saying its acted by relative unknowns it was a thoroughly enjoyable film with some quite amusing one liners! Its always nice to learn something about History while seeing someones legs chopped off as well! 8/10

Watched a 2 hour historical prog about it the other night. Not really into Classical history but is was very good. Wonder how far from the truth the Hollywood version is. 300 got a copy on DVD (top quality copy btw) and really enjoyed it!! Mischief Night. My step sister had rented it so we watched it last night. It's set in Leeds..in Beeston no less! I can't be bothered to write a synopsis so I'll let IMDB do it.... Everyone has Halloween but in Yorkshire, England they have Mischief Night – for one night only, madness and mayhem rule!
Tina Crabtree lives on the White side of the park with her three unruly children, Kimberly, Tyler and Macauley. On the Asian side lives Immie Khan with his lively family. As the clock ticks down to Mischief Night, the Crabtree’s and the Khan’s are unaware that their worlds are about to collide. In the course of one night, the barriers that separate both families come tumbling down in a blaze of crime, clubbing, love and fireworks – changing all their lives forever. It was quite funny and I liked that it was set in Leeds. There were a lot of stereotypes though. A Leeds shirt made a few appearances too 7/10
