Haha, I did think about a thread like this!
In my first year at Uni I did live on fried egg sandwiches (yes I'll no doubt be dead by 40), and crisp sandwiches

Pah - you people suck so far! The true art to student food is learning to mix 'n' match cheaply but in a great way - for instance: Pasta Cheese Cucumber Tuna Mayo (optional) Cook up a portion of pasta as per normal (spirals or shells are best). While it's cooking, drain a tin of tuna, grate some cheese to taste (i.e. if you like a lot, put a lot in!) and cut some cucumber into chunks - 1cm thick slices cut into quarters is a good bet. Once the pasta's cooked, drain it (if you prefer to rinse it, use hot water) and dump it into a large bowl. Immediately sprinkle about a third of the cheese over it and mix it in - the faster this is done, the better, as the pasta should still be hot enough to melt the cheese. Repeat with the other two thirds. Dump in the cucumber and tuna to taste, and mix all of that in. Mix in some mayonaise if you prefer (I go without; it's not particularly dry anyway), and you're done! Preparation time is about ten minutes start to finish, there's minimal washing up (a knife, a fork, a chopping board, a saucepan and a bowl), it's got a decent mix of food groups and tastes great ;D That, my friends, is what student food's about!

Get some cheese and some bread. Toast one side of bread. Grate cheese onto side of untoasted bread. Toast cheesy side of bread. Give fancy name that involves 'Cheese' and 'Toast'!

GRES'S BIG SOUP PASTA STOMACH LINER:INGREDIENTS: PASTA (ANY SHAPE) ONE TIN OF HEINZ BIG SOUP (any flavour you like - i used chicken or beef) TO COOK: Cook pasta as per instructions on the packet - usually about 10 mins in boiling water for those of you who cant be arsed to read em! Cook Big soup until just starting to boil and then throw in the pasta to make a fine stew. Costs about £1.50 and will line your stomach nicely, ready for the night on the town!

Last year, one of my main meals was pasta with pesto, tuna and cheese. Early on, had some lime juice and sprinkled that in as well.

If you are on a budget, Pasta with Pesto sauce on its own is nice - for variety try alternating between red pesto and green pesto! ;D you can chuck in tuna/cheese/sweetcorn/peppers etc if you are feeling 'adventurous' like Pete!

The best thing about it is you get pasta/meat and veg all for under £2!
