Some interesting comments coming out here. This is hystreria brought about by the media frenzy. Viewing figures and selling papers dictates that more is made of it that ought to be. Hannah,i would say you are safe to go to the game saturday unless you are working the streets alone. I'd agree - I mean, there's likely to be, what, several thousand other people about?

Neither would I, I feel sorry for the people living in and around Ipswich. Luckily I live near the other major town in Suffolk (Bury), so it's not affecting me as badly, but just that headline in my local paper got me thinking. Ah, the Town of St Noel Edmonds, right?! ;D Well, if you're worried don't go alone... but you should be okay in the middle of the day... Yup I'm with my brother and dad, so I'm fine. My mum's going to Wales to celebrate our Auntie's 60th and see her great-nephew

Hannah,i would say you are safe to go to the game saturday unless you are working the streets alone. Well I agree with that Ive, but in all fairness the deaths of five women are quite a big deal - especially in a part of the country which most people think of as "very safe". But as we know, it is a potentially dangerous business that these women were working in. And yes of course rationally most people in the area will be entirely safe, but a bit of concern is natural...

This bloke has an obvious MO and that counts out possibly 99.5% of the female populus. There are many other beasties out there rather than just that one.

Absolutly Jules, the reason for the hystreria and the police being caught on the back foot is the sudden finding of 5 bodies is such a short time scale. No police force could cope with that. His days are numbered now mate,if he had done his deeds over time there is a possibility he wouldn't have gotten that far,but all at once and you have the upper hand for a short time. This is horrific story, makes me feel physically sick anytime I hear any more updates about it. I have a good friend who lives in Ipswich as well, the second body was found just 2 minutes away from his house

There's no reason for the average girl in Suffolk though, it's clearly prostitutes this ripper has it in for, and I think the majority of the population are safe. I always feel for prostitutes, they're probably trapped with drugs and deep in the brown stuff with some sort of gang. It's the people who exploit them who make me sick, and they have brought on this whole scenario. If you're spending hundreds of quid a day on smack coz you're addicted I doubt you'd stop working the streets at a time like this, because you're addicted.

You just take care of yourself Han, like I said the other day.
He may just be targetting prostitutes, but so did the Yorkshire Ripper, and not all his victims were prostitutes

It's sickening this story, and as Urz said, the prostitutes are normally forced into it having hit rock bottom first.
Interesting piece in the independant today criticising the governments zero tolerance policy on prostitution. difficult to know if a more lenient policy with legalised brothels would change the situation though.
the papers seem to think it's most likely a disturbed loner with a troubled childhood blaming his problems on women & prostitutes - much like sutcliffe. ironically one of the tabs thought it was the media attention he was after.
look after yourself though hannah

Prostitutes are easliy picked out by those who seek their services Hannah. Just don't let the hysteria frighten you unnecessarily, there are other things that you should be thinking of not the horrors of this piss pot world.

My local news has been the most reassuring actually. The main presenter said he found out some shocking things today, and he said the whole region was shocked and stuff. It's just the national news stirring it all up. The thing is though, the world's eye is on Suffolk and Ipswich. I've been on national newspaper sites of America and Australia, it's the main story in their 'world news' section. Sleepy Suffolk's been woken up

the strange thing is that on average, a prostitute is murdered every couple of months. it's the morbid obsession over serial killers that has bought this story to light and national (hell, even local) attention.

It's actually been on the local news since November, it was once two bodies were found that the national news got interested
