Leicester waiting for Warnock
EXCLUSIVE: Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock will today quit Bramall Lane after nearly eight years in charge and join Leicester City.
Warnock, who is a free agent this summer, spent several hours in talks with Blades chairman Kevin McCabe yesterday and was again offered a two-year deal to stay.
But the Blades manager will step down after his failure to keep the club in the Premiership and will immediately be offered a fresh challenge at Leicester by Milan Mandaric.
Foxes chairman Mandaric is understood to have decided that former Sheffield Wednesday defender Nigel Worthington, who took temporary charge five games ago, will not get the role permanently.
Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordon is another admirer of Warnock and could be interested should he opt to axe former Hull City manager Peter Taylor.
Blades officials were staying tight-lipped last night, but a press conference called for this morning is expected to announce a decision on Warnock's future.
Assistant Stuart McCall is likely to be among the candidates considered to replace Warnock, so too ex-Fulham manager Chris Coleman with the Blades expected to opt for a younger coach.
Warnock had raised doubts about his future on Sunday after his side failed to gain the point they needed for survival against Wigan.
He took seven years to get the Blades into the Premiership and wanted to get the club into Europe, but that dream has been shattered by the club's instant relegation.
Top players including defender Phil Jagielka and goalkeeper Paddy Kenny are likely to move on this summer rather than return to the Football League.
Leicester will be among the favourites for promotion thanks to the financial support of multi-millionaire Mandaric.
Warnock was given permission to speak with Mandaric at Portsmouth 17 months ago, but rejected the move.

I don't get it - yesterday he said he wanted to continue to manage in the Prem - yet now it seems he's leaving a team just relegated to the Championship, to join a team that nearly fell out of the Championship this year

its potential though. with Manderics millions they could be out of that division next season and stay in the prem for many more to come.

that is true - but it will take a momumentous effort to get them anywhere near the play offs next season when you look at who is coming down and who is at the top of the champ this year.

I dont think it will. He will buy players that are capable of getting up there. I wouldn't rule them out no matter who takes charge.

Milan's supposed '£9million' over two seasons is £3million less than we blew when we were relegated, and a hell of a lot less than those teams who have just been relegated will received. His ownership and cash is not certain to bring success at all.

Warnock has said he's still enthusiastic about managerial life and is ready for his last big challenge ............ could this be you Leicester??? Could well be, alot of Leicester fans won't want him though - his outburst when we were in administration was quite something, but then again I seem to recall a certain Mr Mandaric saying something along the same lines and is now a hero in these parts. Yes, Neil Warnock is an absolute coont, but so, in some peoples eyes, is Martin O'Neill - and look what he did for us. People love to hate Warnock but you can't argue against his passion and belief in his team, he won't settle for second best and has been successful at this level. Whether I want him at Leicester is entirely dependent on who else we could possibly get. As my signature will tell you, Tigana is my first choice (although extremely unlikely to happen),he has a high profile and what he's achieved at Besiktas will mean he'll have admirers all over Europe - but Milan is not only ambitious but he is persuasive. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, but I don't think Warnock would be that much of a disaster.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, but I don't think Warnock would be that much of a disaster. Well amongst us Sheff Utd fans he always divided opinion. He was both liked and loathed in equal measure. On one hand I'm sorry to see him go, as we've never had a manager with such drive and passion for the club. He always gets the most out of the players who play for him. However on the other I think it's important he's left so the club can move forward (........ or we could go backwards!!). We played some pretty awful football under Warnock and tactically he's quite poor. The fact that we used more players than any other club in the PL last season, shows that even he didn't even know what his best team was. He also has a small club mentality he instills in everyone, which makes it difficult to attract 'top' players, and can lead to a negative approach to game by the team. ........... but you could do worse!!

If he does go to Leicester, at least it will be someone else's turn to listen to his after match comments hoping against hope that he doesn't say something that makes you cringe with embarrassment!

Colin Wanker as boss - LMFAOROFPMSL!! Lol. Foxes put Warnock on short-list Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric says Neil Warnock is on a short-list to become the club's next manager but insists no contact has been made. Mandaric told the Leicester Mercury: "Neil Warnock is a good and experienced manager and may be under consideration. "But he is only one of several on the list I will be considering. As it is such an important decision, I will not be rushed." He added: "I have had no dialogue with him or anyone else." Nigel Worthington took over as caretaker-manager of the Foxes in April after the departure of Rob Kelly. He helped steer the club away from relegation and Worthington is part of a shortlist which is believed to include five names.

Neil Warnock insisted last night he does not know where his next job will be, despite being linked with the vacant Leicester City position.
Warnock yesterday stepped down as Sheffield United manager by mutual consent following their relegation from the Premiership last weekend.
He had spent seven-and-a-half years in charge at Bramall Lane, taking them to promotion from the Championship in 2006.
Speculation immediately linked Warnock with City, who are looking for a full-time replacement for Robert Kelly.
Asked about the speculation, Warnock said: "There are a lot of clubs who will be looking for someone, and looking at what managers can do for that particular club.
"I think there will be opportunities in the next weeks or months. I want to go somewhere where there will be the chance of success."
The 58-year-old added: "I am looking forward to one more challenge in my career. I don't know where that will be. I have nothing lined up.
"I want to manage in the Premiership and have a number of years left."
Warnock is the latest in a string of names to be linked with the Walkers Stadium as owner Milan Mandaric begins his search for a new manager.
Speculation again surfaced this week about Coventry boss Iain Dowie - who Mandaric admitted talking to when he bought the club - amid rumours that he is unhappy at the Ricoh Arena.
However, Coventry managing director Paul Fletcher rubbished the rumours, saying: "There is no truth whatsoever in the persistent rumours that he is leaving. Iain is very happy at Coventry."
Paul Ince, the Macclesfield manager, ex-City player Mike Newell and former Fulham boss Chris Coleman have also been linked.
Nigel Worthington, who took over as caretaker following Kelly's sacking in April, has declared he is interested in the job.

Martin Allen has emerged as a rival to Neil Warnock and Chris Coleman for the Leicester job after guiding MK Dons to the League Two play-off semi-final.
Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric, currently in Florida on holiday, is expected to make a formal approach to MK Dons for permission to speak with Allen after the outcome of their semi-final second leg against Shrewsbury.
Allen has worked on restricted budgets at Brentford and MK Dons and it is understood Leicester prefer his managerial style to the abrasive approach of Warnock.

A string of names have been linked with the Walkers Stadium job in recent weeks.
The latest is Martin Allen, who has guided MK Dons to the League Two play-off semi-final.
The Dons are favourites to seal a place at Wembley in tonight`s second leg after the 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury on Monday.
This is the fifth time Allen has guided a team to the play-offs but he has yet to succeed at that stage.
Other people linked include ex-Fulham manager Chris Coleman, Derby boss Billy Davies and Iain Dowie, the Coventry manager as well as Macclesfield manager Paul Ince and Neil Warnock, who quit Sheffield United earlier in the week.
Nigel Worthington is a contender after taking over as caretaker
However, not one name has emerged as a fans' favourite, according to the City Supporters' Club and the Foxes Trust.
"People have different views on who it should be," said Supporters' Club chairman Cliff Ginnetta.
"I wouldn't like to say who the fans' favourite for the job is because it's very split.
"Personally, I don't have any particularly strong views on one candidate or another.
"There are a few names who would be strong candidates.
"Neil Warnock will be there with them. Paul Jewell (who quit Wigan this week) is out of a job, Billy Davies has been mentioned and is a man who has done a lot in the division, and Iain Dowie, who was linked before.
"They have all done it in the division and have experience at our level. I think that's going to stand them in good stead and I would think that's what Milan Mandaric is looking for."
It is a position echoed by Trust chairman Ian Bason.
"I don't think anyone has unanimous backing, unless Martin O'Neill turned round and said he wanted it," he said.
"Whatever man comes up, some people will like and some won't for all sorts of reasons.
"I haven't got a preference. At the end of the day, it's whoever Milan chooses and we have to back that. He will have the task of getting us up and we will have to back that."
Manny Bernstein, the only Leicester-based bookmaker offering odds on the next manager, has Worthington as 6-4 favourite, Ince 7-4 and Stuart Pearce, who was this week sacked by Manchester City, 6-1. Coleman is 10-1, former Wigan boss Paul Jewell is 12-1 and Warnock is 16-1. - That's surely got to be worth a flutter!
