Wolves remain hopeful of signing Peterborough striker Aaron McLean as they prepare to submit a third bid of around £1.5m.
Posh director of football Barry Fry has confirmed Wolves have made a second bid but declared that they were “wasting their time”.
Yet the player is keen to move to the Championship after declaring: “I want to play as high as possible.”
Fry said: “Wolves have made two bids which were instantly disregarded.
“They were miles below what we would consider a proper fee for a player of Aaron’s goalscoring ratio.
“They have been very persistent in their attempts to sign Aaron but I did tell them last week they were wasting their time. We are not a selling club.”
Wolves still believe a deal can be struck – possibly by offering a player – and that they can re-unite McLean with his former Grays team-mate Michael Kightly.

Wolves’ pursuit of Hearts defender Christophe Berra is being delayed by the Scottish club appointing a new manager.
Hearts turned down a bid from Wolves believed to be worth around £1.5m for the newly-capped Scottish international.
Artmedia Bratislava chief Vladimir Weiss, one of three candidates on the shortlist, failed to meet a 5pm deadline on Tuesday to meet with the Romanovs, who own Hearts.
But the player, who is due to report back for the start of pre-season training next Wednesday, is believed to be keen on moving south.
Berra is currently away on holiday, but wants his future sorted out by then.
Berra’s agent Gary Mackay said: “I knew Wolves were one of several clubs who had shown an interest in Christophe.
“They are clearly an ambitious club with a lot of potential. My intention is to speak to people at Hearts in the next day or two.
“Dealing with them is not always simple or straightforward because the people you need to deal with aren’t usually in the country.
“You cannot just drop in and have a chat with them.”

To be fair, with teams higher in the leagues splashing huge amounts on players, Peterborough will have slapped a high price tag on him in a bid to either scare you off or just claim alot of money from you. If you take MacLean out of the Posh team then they will struggle next season so they want as much as possible to compensate for that

Wolves’ protracted signing of Hearts defender Christophe Berra is no nearer conclusion after the player’s agent admitted difficulties in contacting the club’s Lithuanian owners.
It is understood Wolves have offered £1.5m for the 24-year-old recently-capped Scottish international. But there appears to have been no contact with the controversial Romanovs, who control the managerless SPL club.
“Christophe has just come back from holiday and I go to Canada today,” said Berra’s agent and former Hearts player Gary Mackay.
“Other clubs have looked at Hearts players and left it – we are dealing with the owners who are based in Lithuania, so it’s a pretty fragmented situation. All I’m going to do is get an idea from Christophe once he has spoken to his family, being as he’s very close to them, and see if he wants to progress things or stay at Hearts.”
Meanwhile, Wolves fans face double inconvenience for their trip to Cardiff on Saturday November 1.
The match has been moved by Sky to a 5.20pm kick-off time, but visiting fans will also be subject to restrictions from South Wales police.
Fans can get into Ninian Park only if they go via official travel and buy their ticket at a designated place en route.
A similar plan of action was undertaken for the FA Cup fifth-round tie between the teams last season to prevent crowd trouble.
Wolves have signed five new scholars for their Academy. Defenders Mark Connolly, Jamie Reckord and Paul McCone, central midfielder Nathan Rooney and forward-cum-winger Nathanial Mendez-Laing are the new recruits.
“Three of those five are internationals and we’re very much looking forward to them all coming in,” said Academy manager Kevin Thelwell. “It’s an exciting time for them.”

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has again pledged his loyalty to Wolves despite continued speculation over his future.
The Championship Golden Boot winner has been linked with a move to Everton, with reports saying Wolves have turned down a £3.5m bid from Everton and want £5m.
This has been hotly denied by Molineux chief executive Jez Moxey, who is anxious to keep the club’s young and hungry brigade together for another promotion assault next season.
And today Ebanks-Blake said he fully expects to be at Wolves next season as he prepares to return to Compton for the start of pre-season training on Monday.
“I’m a Wolves player and that’s what I’m gearing up to before we’re back in for the start of pre-season training on Monday,” said the striker, who scored 23 League goals in 2007-08.
“Hopefully we can kick on and better what we did last season. For me, the speculation is always there especially if you’re scoring goals, but I’m a Wolves player as it stands and I’m gearing up for a big season.
“Promotion is the aim. Wolves is a massive club that should be in and about the promotion places and now it’s time to get to the next level and take automatic promotion or if not, the play-offs and that’s what we’re gearing up to do.”
Ebanks-Blake has been shaping for the new campaign at a health spa in Hertfordshire with the help of former Wolves striker Don Goodman, now a personal trainer.
“Last year it gave me a real boost at the start of the season and if it can have the same influence again it will provide me with a real kickstart, so for me, it’s a no-brainer,” he added.
“Don Goodman has helped me all the way through and I had a good year and it’s a case of keeping it up.”

Wolves insist they are working as fast as possible to bring in more new signings – but are prepared to wait for Christophe Berra and Aaron McLean.
Hearts want £2m for their captain Berra but the chances of an early conclusion to the move have become even more remote, after interim head coach Stephen Frail was suspended.
Frail was ordered to stay away from the managerless Jambos’ Riccarton training centre until next week at the earliest.
He met with sport director Anatoli Korobochka at Tynecastle on Wednesday and was told – on orders from Lithuania, where the club’s owners the Romanovs are based – that he wasn’t needed.
Whatever happens, Wolves’ interest remains strong as Berra weighs up his future in the coming days.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We can only work as fast as the other party. It’s a slow market but we are pleased to be on the front foot.
“But we’re being thwarted by the lack of response by the other side which is frustrating for everyone who loves Wolves.
“Steve Morgan wanted to move quickly and so did myself and Mick. None of our players have gone out the other way which is symptomatic of a slow and lethargic market and that’s the frustration.
“But we are moving much quicker than many clubs.”
Berra, who is contracted to Hearts until 2011, was the subject of a failed £1.5m bid from Wolves earlier this month, while Rangers had a £1m offer rejected.
Wolves have also arranged two more friendlies. They travel to Chasetown on July 18 and Rhyl on July 26.
