Wolves are stepping up their efforts to land Watford winger Tommy Smith after the Hornets confirmed they have turned down two bids.
The offers are believed to be from Wolves and from Reading who are looking to replace Kevin Doyle, who is also wanted by Wolves manager Mick McCarthy.
Meanwhile the pursuit of Southampton midfielder Andrew Surman could reach a swift conclusion, because of Saints' financial crisis, both Wolves and Sheffield United are said to have made bids of £1m for the player.

Skysports.com understands Wolves are closing in on the signing of Croatian international Jerko Leko.
The Premier League new boys are believed to have agreed a fee with Monaco for the midfielder as Mick McCarthy continues his rebuilding plans.
Leko is thought to have been recommended to McCarthy by Croatia boss
Slaven Bilic.
Wolves have moved quickly to try and lure Leko to Molineux by agreeing a deal with French side Monaco.
Leko is expected to arrive in England later this week for talks with Wolves and a possible medical.
The 29-year-old would add versatility to McCarthy's squad as he can play anywhere across midfield and has a wealth of experience having won over 50 caps for Croatia.

Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne is in demand as reports claim Wolves and Reading are battling for his signature.
Wolves could follow up their interest with a new enquiry of their own after reports claimed Royals boss Brendan Rodgers hopes to be at the front of the queue if Chelsea decide to sell the 21-year-old.
Mancienne spent the first half of last season on loan at Molineux and would fall within manager Mick McCarthy's budget as he looks to build a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.
But Rodgers' contacts at Cobham, where he used to run the reserve team for Chelsea, mean that he could still land the England Under-21 defender, who returns from a nightmare tournament in Sweden next week.
Mancienne lost his place in Stuart Pearce's line-up after being sent off in the opening match against Finland and failed to impress when named in a shadow team against Germany when his lapse in concentration allowed the Germans to score in the opening three minutes.

No offense to Reading, but if thats the only team who we'll be competing against, we should be OK.

Wolves defender Stephen Ward has urged Reading striker Kevin Doyle to join him at Molineux.
The 23-year-old told the Express & Star: “Trying to sign Kevin is definitely a statement of the club’s ambition and it comes from the chairman, because that’s how he’s been from day one.
“It would be a massive statement from the club if we could sign him. The Irish connection is obviously a big thing in our favour for him. There’s a few lads here who know him – I’ve played against him over in Ireland and since he’s been here with Reading. He also knows Andy Keogh and Kevin Foley from the Irish set-up.
“The club sells itself with the manager and I know Kevin will have been impressed by what he was told. We’re a club on the up, we’re all around the same age and hungry for success. We feel we can go places.
“We’ve got goals in our strikeforce with four quality strikers, but he’s another to add to the mix. He’s already shown he can score goals in the Championship and the Premier League.
“Our strikers have proved they can score goals in the Championship and I have no doubt they can do it in the Premier League. But if Kevin comes, then it’s more competition. If we could get him, it would add to what we’ve got.”

Gotta say POG, I'm not sure that he will be good enough. In the championship he was able to cover mistakes with his speed, he will not be able to do that in the Premier. I would rather not waste the money as I think Stearman could prove to be a better defender within the next year or two.

Apparently we've bid for Mancienne and it's under consideration. The deal could take a while due to the delayed arrival of Ancelotti but it will be confirmed by the end of July either way. The source is very reliable having been spot on with the Doyle and Surman signings.
Richard Dunne is another name doing the rounds.

Wolves will be due a seven-figure windfall if Joleon Lescott’s £15m-plus transfer to Manchester City goes through.
The club have confirmed a sell-on clause of at least 10 per cent – and possibly 15 per cent – of any profit Everton make on the £5m they paid for the England international three years ago.
That means Wolves would receive a minimum of £1m if the deal goes through. But the figure could be much more.
The Goodison outfit are reluctant to let the 26-year-old leave, but believe they are facing a losing battle in the knowledge that money is no object for the world’s richest club, who can double his estimated £35,000-a- week wages.
So Everton are holding out for £20m, based on the £17m Liverpool were forced to pay Portsmouth for Glen Johnson recently, a figure which would give Wolves a further £500,000 – more than covering the £1.2m they paid Southampton for new signing Andrew Surman last week.
Should Lescott leave for Eastlands – and there are encouraging signs from sources close to both clubs that this will happen – he would become the costliest sale in Wolves’ history, eclipsing the £6m they received for Robbie Keane from Coventry in 1999.
Lescott’s sale could force the departure of City defender Richard Dunne, who could yet emerge as a shock target for Wolves.
Reports suggest City have turned to Chelsea captain John Terry and are ready to pay £35m for the England skipper as well as offer him £200,000 a week. But they haven’t been given any encouragement from Stamford Bridge.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We’re interested if this transfer takes places and we’re monitoring this closely.”
In nine years at Molineux, Lescott became one of Wolves’ best defenders of recent times, emerging through the Academy ranks to play 235 senior games, including helping the club to the Premier League in 2002-03 via the play-offs.
He was unable to play the following season due to a knee operation, but he regained full fitness and played two more seasons.

Reports suggest Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to allow Michael Mancienne to come to Wolves on loan for the season.
Wolves are set to step up their interest in the Hamilton Academical starlet James McCarthy in the hope of beating off competition from Premier League rivals Burnley.
