Ah yes, those feminists of all those years back set such a great example for women today. As one, they rose up and cried, "We shall not be dictated to!" They then went and became secretaries ;D

If you have an interest (which surely we all have) you should vote to register it. Twice I have gone and written "nobody to vote for" on the ballot paper and posted it. It gets a count (I don't think I was quoted in the National press : but at least it counts as being other than apathetic...

I don't vote either You two have both forfeited your right to complain when things go wrong ;D No they haven't. If there isn't a party that they feel represents their views, why should they vote. If they did so, they would be voting for something that did not represent their views and in my view that would give them far less grounds for complaint.

Could deliberately spoil their ballots, rather than just doing nothing at all. I'm pretty sure there'd be one candidate that they could vote for, if they checked all the local ones out - Monster Raving Loony as a protest vote, if nothing else. There's more than just the 'big three' out there!

There's more than just the 'big three' out there! I plan to wipe my bum with my ballot paper and then cast my vote!! Inevitably though if you don't cast your vote for the big 3 (2 in real terms), then your vote will not affect the outcome. So at that point, have you wasted your vote?? Does that then make voting a pointless and futile exercise?? With incredibly low levels of voter turnout, I get the feeling that many people feel it is. The reality of life is that it doesn't seem to matter who 'in' at the moment, as there is so little difference between the big 3, and there is also so little scope for any kind of meaning changes to be made. Essentially the arrival any new government these day is akin to painting go faster stripes on a Robin Reliant!!

Essentially the arrival any new government these day is akin to painting go faster stripes on a Robin Reliant!! The fact remains, though, that at least a vote was cast. If everyone who felt voting for anyone other than the big three was a waste of time actually went and voted anyway, how many more votes would those smaller parties have? They might only get a couple of MPs here and there, but it'd still be a start. For the above reason, I'd argue that not voting at all is a more pointless exercise than voting for someone who has "no chance" of getting in.
