All my friends are glad he's gone. I think for the last couple of months it's been a matter of when not if. He really hasn't done himself any favours.
For me, Argentina need to take a fresh and younger approach, a new direction and my choice would be Diego Simeone. I like what i've seen of him in management so far and the way he handled the whole Ortega fiasco at River was very professional. He doesn't mess around and he's not afraid to make big decisions.
I think it's time the likes of Abbondanzieri, Zanetti and Cambiasso stepped aside and left the job to the youngsters. None of them are getting any younger and Argentina have a mouth-watering selection of kids waiting to burst onto the scene.
I thought Argentina were superb in the first half against Uruguay last week, their attacking play was frightening at times and you could almost smell a goal each time they went forward. Yet they needed an injury-time goal to avoid an embarrassing defeat at home to Ecuador and seemed clueless in what should have been a straightforward three points away to Chile.
It really is up to the AFA to sit down and make sure they get their next appointment spot on.

Bad luck IWEDFM. The rumour is once Ischia gets the chop at Boca you get Coco. Batista will be stand in for the games against Ireland & Scotland. I hope the evil Grondona does not if he does well appoint him. Its all very well winning an Olympics but we were lucky against Holland & his system doesn;t inspire me with confidence. I'd prefer Simeone with Tocalli & Batigol in the coaching set up as well. After 2010 if things don't go right Pellegrini of Villareal. I bet Cavenaghi, Gonzalo Rodriguez , Maxi Rodriguez , Higuain, Lavezzi , Zarate , Banega , Garay , Fazio , Monzon , Ansaldi , Maidana ,Palacio etc etc will be wakig up with big smiles now that the buffoon is gone. I never supported his appointment at the time & wanted Ramon Diaz in but of course with the ****** Grondona sadly no chance or indeed Bianchi.

According to Ole or Clarin Bianchi may not be out of the running which is fantastic news. Top coach with great tactical awareness & motivational skills.

Thats a great endorsement GB. I just hope this idiot who is as bad as Blatter in terms of 'corruption' one of the old network that used to be friends of the military juntas , does not appoint a yes man. Bianchi is certainly not a yes man. The only doubt lies after poor spells at Roma & Atletico but that was partly due to bust ups with the owner over transfers & squad selection.

ive cast my vote cool sig btw Ovech(the messi bit) Cheers amigo. Its a simple program Video Avatar to make a gif. I've got it on a disc somewhere. If you want it I'll upload it. Masche wants Maradona. Might as well get a lunatic in. C'mo get Bianchi & Tocalli in ! Mind you MR Pellegrini would be fantastic. However he has a contract with Villareal until 2010 so we would have to wait until after the Cup in South Africa. Did well with San Lorenzo & River and is practically an honorary Argentine .

I agree, Bianchi would be a good choice. Def over Maradona anyway...yes he was an amazing player but coaching..? There is good support for him, but for me he is not what they need, Batistuta isn't either imo.
Whoever is appointed needs to make full use of the talent available, something which Basile, criminally, did not.

My choice would still be Simeone despite River's current plight.
As I said further up, Argentina need a fresh approach and Simeone would be ideal to lead a new generation of youngsters.
I would bet on him having a similar impact to what Bilic has had on Croatia or even the success Klinnsman had with Germany at the last World Cup.
I like Bianchi and he certainly wouldn't be a bad choice should he get the nod. The local media over here are favouring him and it seems a decision is imminent.
Passarella or Russo would also get a thumbs up from me but Maradona would be a disaster waiting to happen. He's certainly not the ideal role model off-the-field and with his lack of managerial experience it's hard to imagine him, realistically, being in with a shout.

It seems Maradona has his backers within the AFA which is unfortunate IWEDFM. I hope this story of Bianchi being invited is not a PR ruse & they employ Batista simply because he acheived an Olympic title. Bianchi,Simeone & Russo with Tocalli as an assistant would be great. Tocalli knows of all the kids having built up the World youth cup winners in 2005 & 2007. Batigol could work with the strikers esp. Cavenaghi who is in direct sucession to him.

The latest over here is that Maradona will be given the job and will be assisted by Bilardo.
Stupid move if it does happen. It would be like Lineker getting the England job.
I can't see what Maradona will offer the national side other than worldwide press coverage.
He's hardly the ideal role-model to the new kids on the block and with no previous managerial experience he's putting his legendary status firmly on the line.
Bad move for Diego and an even worse move by the AFA (should he be be appointed).

I hope people protest in Argentina because the way Grondona the evil corrupt bastardo is going he is ruining any chance of silverware in 2010. Bilardo like Basile is a generation away from these players. If they think Maradona's cavalier attitude combined with Bilardo's defensive mindedness is going to work they must be mad. Lineker could do a better job.
