A great start, you caught them cold then suprise, suprise a penalty.
Welcome to the "Premiership" this will teach you to play well against a "Big club".
Actualy I have a lot of respect for Villa but fair play to you for holding the score down with 10 men. Villa I though would struggle this season even with M O'N but it looks like the higher archie are looking after their own again.
Get used to it the more of a threat you are the more the Prem weill cain you.

Moore is only a lightweight fella, and with a big galoot like Sonko leaning on his back like that he's gonna go down. He wrecked a goalscoring oppurtunity, and it was far less contentious than the Stevie G pen on Saturday. If every time a pen is given against you, you blame it on being a small club, you won't get anywhere.

watch it again mate, thats not what it was given for. even though sonko is a big old boy your bloke actually pushed him off the ball fairly, sonko then lost his footing and when he was goin down got a VERY SLIGHT bit of contact with moore's back leg.
dont get me wrong i do think it was a pen even though sonko didnt have any control of what he hit seeing as he was falling over, i just didnt think the red was to fair.

Last man denies a scoring opportunity. The ref saw it as a foul and followed the letter of the law.

Fair enough I don't think there was intent there, but that's another issue. It was a penalty, and if he's giving a penalty for that rule, then he has to show a red. If he hadn't given a penalty I would've been furious.

Its the consistency that is lacking. Watching last nights MOTD. Portsmouth were denied a penalty for handball and then Ben (thug) Thatcher commits assault and gets off with a yellow.
Dermot Gallagher and his assistant who must have seen the latter need suspending!

Dermot Gallagher and his assistant who must have seen the latter need suspending! Yep. Thatcher needs a very, very lengthy ban for that. When I say lengthy I mean the rest of the season. For someone who is actually a fairly decent defender, I find it a shame that he does things like that from time to time and gets away with it. If he doesn't get what's due to him this time I'll be shocked.

Good call - rest of season for Thatcher. That would send out the right message.

Damn right. I just watched it again and whilst I can understand the Royals disappointment, I stand by what I've said. Reading still lokk handy though. You and the Blades will stay up I reckon. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

the rules of the game state that if the last man brings down a player whos in on goal its a red and penalty....clear as day....but i also think (and ive seen it done) that a referee should use common sence...sonks aint light on his feet at the best of times and when a big fella like him falls...its not going to be gracefull....and with referance to other events of last night (namely mister thatcher) i think sonks red card was very harsh...if you can get a yello for smacking a player out cold hows falling over a red?
