I'm fed up of the muppets on local radio slating Sturrock's record in the transfer market.
In his first interview as Owls boss he stated that he couldn't guarantee every signing would be successful but did promise to move the failures on quickly.
He's been good to his word in every respect of that.
Who was the last manager who had a 100% success rate in signing players (see Clough with Sheridan!)?
I doubt any.
For me...
Successes;
O'Brien (J) Jones Quinn Bruce Coughlan Simek Hills (better fb than Heckingbottom) Gilbert (better fb than Hills) Eagles O'Brien (B) (people suggesting he starts over Whelan!) Weaver
Not played enough to judge properly;
Burton Tudgay Folly Best Corr Adams Adamson
Failures;
Ross (loaned out) Rocastle (transfer listed but injured) Graham (loaned out)
Thoughts?

I think you just have to look at what these players have done since joining the Owls Rich. Both Joey O`Brien and now Bruce have been called up for full International despite being complete unknowns last yr. Id agree with all the above. I think even Ross is a little unfair, more down to his poor attitude than Luggys judgement in signing him

Fair point sir.
Ross was a great signing on paper but fair do's to PS for getting shut when he spat his dummy out.
Why drop Simek for him when he'd done nothing wrong?
Besides we've had enough shithouses disrupting things down S6 in the last 10 years.
Another thing, why do people feel the need to give players three games maximum before forming a negative opinion on them.
In the case of Folly he's played virtually no first team football all season and been chucked into a struggling midfield.
Fair enough, he's no Carlton Palmer but the kid has pedigree.
Get off his back!

Indeed Rich, Follys got a bit of stick round me as well. Unfair, bearing in mind Whelan goes missing for large proportions. Theres a lot of pressure on him, pitch at the mo doesnt help much either.
Huge congrats fella, another Owl to welcome to the fold. Should be out in time for the start of the season eh ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Has Folly really been slated? I think he's a good tackling midfielder. He wasn't match fit when he first came to Hillsboro and the Southampton fans seemed to be sad to see him go especially because Prutton's injured.
Whelan is my major moan at the moment. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when the Captaincy was taken off. I thought it was that that was affecting his game. Now I realised he just can't hack it in this league and his attitude is awful. I'm also sick of hearing the excuse that he's "only young". So is the rest of the team but they seem to be able to pull themselves together to have a least one good match this season.

He seems to have built a reputation out of very little to be fair. He was a big dissapiontment. Did any of you lot come down??

No wasn't there. Missed an interesting match I believe!
Whelan was stunning for us last season but it seems his abilities didn't follow him up to the Championship.

well i have to agree that luggy hasnt made all great signings for you, manly gilbert and adams (Was very glad when they left) But he is the manager to take sheffield Wednesday back where they belong, Wednesday should be the better side of sheffield, just a few bad managers hampered your fall but with some more signings and getting rid of the deadwood i truely believe you will return to the pinnicle of english football

Well we have to take into account that the team last season was shit. Turner's team was 4th from bottom of League One when Sturrock took over. He took us to 5th and by rights we should never have gone up last season. We still weren't setting the league on fire with our performances. I think the atmosphere and sheer volume of support at the Millenium stadium took us up.
Our problem now is we can't attract better players because we've got a strict wage cap. I don't disagree with the wage cap because we need to start treating Wednesday as business! I think Luggy has been quite shrewd with his loan signings which have helped Wednesday stay afloat. I just hope it's enough to keep us up!

Oh yes, two poor teams and & even worse ref. Shame about Whelan not being able to make the step up. Some players look outstanding at a lower level, but fail to make the step up. Neil Harris was the same for us, although it could have been very different if he hadnt of got testicular cancer.
