Way to Stoke...
STOKE City are hot on the trail of Coventry defender Elliott Ward and could add Preston midfielder Danny Pugh to their line-up before Saturday's trip to Bristol City.
And manager Tony Pulis remains determined to land an un-named Premiership midfielder to further bolster a Stoke side that reclaimed a top-six slot after last night's 3-1 success at Crystal Palace.
Stoke have failed with an initial bid of around £600,000 for Ward, but are thought to be pondering a second offer for the highly-fancied defender.
Pugh has been monitored for several weeks by Stoke, but only now are Preston thought to be willing to part company with the 24-year-old former Manchester United and Leeds midfielder.
Pugh, who graduated through the Old Trafford Academy, is deemed surplus to requirements at Preston, despite eight appearances so far this term.
Both would be signed initially on loan, but with agreements in place for permanent deals to go through when the transfer window re-opens on January 1.
