Dan Shittu joins Watford in £1.6m deal
Watford have completed the signing of QPR defender Dan Shittu for an initial £1.6 million.
The 25 year old Nigerian international has signed a 3 year deal with the Premiership new boys.
The deal could cost up to £3m with £1.4 being based on appearances and Watford's successes.
"In Danny we're signing another player who fits the Watford way - hungry to learn, and eager to prove his worth at the very, very top level against the best.
"He is somebody that we have been chasing for some time and I'm pleased that he will now have the chance to fight for a place along with the other excellent centre-halves we have at the club."
Aidy Boothroyd has been a long time admirer of the no nonsense defender and his first appearance could be in the high profile game of Inter on Tuesday night.

"2 seasons ago"
Boothy wouldn't spend that amount of cash on someone who was shit, I remember Hull fans sayin how they thought he was the best in the league last season after one of their games. See how he gets on if he can get a place in the team.

How do you reckon you'll do, I'm a bit worried about the fact you haven't bought many new players? Lol why would you be worried??? We haven't signed as many players as I'd have liked - but there's still over a week left so you never know, we have experience in Chris Powell & determination with Damien Francis aswell as signing a few youngsters from Premiership clubs, it also aids us having a quality YTS. I think with the football genius that is Adrian Boothroyd in charge and the mixture of young & old players and all the different strengths they have we stand as good a chance as the two other clubs that went up with us. Shittu looks a good player, I think he'll fit in well with us and stabilise our back four.

If you have read any of ABs comments then yu will know his plans are for the long term. This is not an excuse. Its a genuine plan. Hence the appointment of quality staff for the academy. AB realises we will have to become the sort of club that the likes of Rennes Caen are in France producing quality youngsters which are then moved on & teh money raised buying replacements of experienced players in a continual process. And something which I wrote to Ray Lewington about was the use of technology in football. To use it to monitor players performances & deficiencies in technique & rectify them. And furthermore repetitive skills training to improve the juniors use sof both feet passing range with accuracy from age 8 onwards as happens in rugby. Even the use of ballet exercises to improve players flexibility enabling them to reach the ball & reducing the risk of injury whilst doing so. AB has read up on everything he can & knows what to implement .If he thinks it will benefit the team then so be it. And as for signings LL I'm sure there are a couple of signings to be completed Priskin aside possible Edwards & a player like Lupoli perhaps. Ever onwards & upwards to 17th !!

This is a major signing and a great boost. Lets not expect too much tuesday night remember it's only a friendly and a test with both sides fielding and improved squads especialy us untestested as yet. Inter are comming off the Amsterdam tournamant against the likes of Porto, Ajax and Twat U, while we came from behind to beat the mighty Borehamwood and Wycombe Wonderers with the iconic Mooney scoring. As Aidy says it will be a guage on how far we've come but also what we need to work on. A 4-0 Watford win should give him some ideas

Agree Ovechkin8. AB is clearly building this team for the future, & for the benefit of the club as a whole. What you mention about training methods is interesting aswell - wonder if there would be a noticeable difference if we were to implement that.... The background staff are so important its untrue, it's good to know that your team is in safe hands. Here's a quick C&P from the Sky Sports Website re Shittu: Watford new-boy Danny Shittu says he had to leave QPR in order to pursue a career in The Premiership.
The stopper snubbed strong interest from West Brom to join The Hornets in a £3 million deal on Sunday, leaving a gaping hole in the Rangers backline in the process.
After almost five years at Loftus Road, Shittu was sad to leave the London outfit, but the short trip to Watford offered him an irresistible chance to test himself at a higher level during the coming season.
"To test myself in The Premiership is something I have wanted to do for a long time," said Shittu.
"I am sorry that I have to leave QPR - but it's something that had to happen.
"It's hard leaving a club that has been like a family to me for the last four years.
"I feel I'm ready for The Premiership. I will work hard.
"I believe I can deal with whatever is thrown at me, and I hope I can make a bigger name for myself than I did at QPR." Good to see he has the hunger of which AB spoke of!

I think getting the kids in at 7 & 8 & just working on the skills side of things cannot be understated. Plus add to that situatiion training so a player will know generally the right thing to do in a match situation. It just gives them that extra millisecond of thought which can be critical. As I said clubs like Rennes implement these methods one of their recent products Yoann Gourcuff just left for Inter for 12m & is touted as the new Zidane & future French captain. Rennes are a stable club in Ligue 1 & chellenge for the UEFA spots even on occasion the CL places. It took them over 15 years to get to where they are but its a similar model Watford could do well to follow. AB knows the exact worth of getting the smallest extra amount out of each player. His classrooms on the Danish trip are proof of that. One cannot stress enough the importance of understanding what you are meant to be doing on the pitch & why. And AB clearly like Marin O'Neill & Brian Clough understands the value of a strong resolute mind on the park. I wouldnt mind going to the training ground & seeing the young kids practising hitting targets markers(all done in a way not so as to bore them) ball control skills & just that until they are at least twelve.Once they master the ball the rest of the game would be easy. In any case ABs appointments at the Academy ae proof positive he believes in this too.
