Still enjoy it whilst it lasts, when the torries get in - you'll be held accountable

You've yet to work in the private sector, then you'll know about pressure mate. As a manager I would argue that you are dispensable if you are that far ahead, one of your team would be made redundant and their work load shared out. Like it or not thats what accountants do, then again LGA just spend money with no concern for budgets Mr High Pressure, what you doing here, blud?! From what you say there, you think I don't know that shit is true?! Why you think I see Management Consultants as the enemy, the scum of the earth, huh? These cats aren't down with full employment, social responsibility! All they down with is MONEY! ;D

I'm at least a week ahead of myself, you dudes gotta understand, I got MAD skills! ;D Julian, You've yet to work in the private sector, then you'll know about pressure mate. If you're a week ahead, there must not be enough work to go round - ergo, they can afford to "let someone go." Or so the logic goes.

It's true. If you're a week ahead, there must not be enough work to go round - ergo, they can afford to "let someone go." Or so the logic goes. What you don't understand is that the work comes in peaks and troughs though. We are currently in the trough, maybe in another week we'll have another avalanche of work. Then if they had fired me, they'd be fooked. Of course, even in the busy times I post here!

That doesn't mean senior management, aiming to keep costs to a minimum, will understand that.

I'm sure there are things you could do, still I'm not 100% conversant with what you do. But all accountants work the same.
And no they wouldn't be fooked fella, people would simply have to wait - which in my expirience is the norm with councils!

And as Hurls said - in that respect of things, you're much worse-off in private companies. Was reading a Beeb News article just yesterday that said workers in many private companies haven't had a pay rise for ten years!

Was reading a Beeb News article just yesterday that said workers in many private companies haven't had a pay rise for ten years! I'm half disgusted, half unsurprised. To quote (of all people!) Sam Fisher out of the Splinter Cell games (!) "The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone"

Thats quite uncommon mate, especially in a boom, but come recession then those sorts of things do happen. In the main you get a cost of living increase and thats it + a performance related thingy!

HR might not though... I live in fear and loathing of those charlatan mo-fos... HR are only there to make the correct processes are followed mate! Your line mamanger instructs them and tells them what to do etc., and will always take the company line.

Thats is the right line to take, however they are simply doing what they're being asked to do Have the beef with your manager or the persons concerned, not them. Believe me they only jump when told to...........

I must say that they are simply paper pushers mate, and make sure that proceedures are implemented etc.,
I don't hold them in high regards, always used to make me laugh when they'd say ' you can tell us anything its confidential'
Right it's documented on my file, and wh has access to my file........................

I don't hold paper pushers in especially high regard either! Yeah, you have to be careful dontcha! Tis unfortunate that the world is full of cretins! (cretins whose lives I'm trying to improve, but don't start mocking my politics!)
