Wow! Just got off the phone with my mate (co-founder of the college newspaper) and a huge, nay massive(!) story uncovered by him, [that went to press last night] will make national news!!
A tutor with 7 convictions of sexual assault was allowed to teach at the Leeds college for a number of years, completely undetected. A level 1 student (co-founder of the paper) uncovered this massive story earlier this week but as the issue went to press, the Student Union seized all the copies of the just-printed paper before it could be distributed.
Obviously this will have massive implications, from the 'vetting' process of colleges/schools etc to censorship.. It is a massive story. It is rumoured both The Guardian and The Independent will cover the story, as well as the YEP so.. look out for it!!
I am so shocked! All on your doorstep, scary shit!!!!

Thats awful, just don't understand how these types slip through the net. The individual must have used another name to pass the CRB checks or they simply where not done!

The college isn't helping itself though, it prides itself on having a great Centre for Journalism department and not 2 weeks ago, we had an assignment on 'the freedom of the press', now it's attempting to censor those involved with the papers.. It's amateurish.

disgusting....but it's more rife than you think It's shocking that such people slip through the net.. One hopes the implications of this will see the vetting process amended. But that's probably being too optimistic.

If he's got loads of offences then surely he's on the sex offenders list. Their only saving grace wil be if the individual concerned used a false identity, if he didn't then the place will be swarming with Ofsted bods! Also Ofsted could be in the shit as well, if they didn't pick this up on their last inspection.

If he had just 1 offence, the college should have known about it but they've buggered up and they know it, it's even a Catholic Institution for crying out loud! God knows how this has only been uncovered now.. but you'll never guess where my mate got a tip off about this.. The cleaner. I kid you not. Those at the 'bottom' often know a heckuva lot. there are so many questions the college has to answer for but these are not issues they can just sweep under the rug. Tis a pity the reputation of the college will be severely damaged because of this, in particular the center for journalism, even though the department had nothing to do with this

When thats concluded they'll be sacked. Well if the cleaner found out, then thats really bad. It means the college have known for a while and tried to hide it. But FFS leaving sensitive data like that knocking around just beggars belief! It'll blow over, but there could be a few sackings as a result of the enquiry me thinks
