One AC Milan star can at least say that with honesty - having missed a season through injury, he has (at his own request) had his contract extended by a year, during which he's not gonna be paid, in order to make up for the lost year!

Indeed, fair play to him.
It's not as rare an occurence as people might think, though.
When I first heard about this story I immediately was reminded of the case of Redondo.
He transferred to Milan from Real in 2000, but was unable to play for over two years due to persistent knee problems.
"Suspended his £2.74m-a-year salary, even tried to give back the house and car which the Milan board had given him, showing great ethics and principles rarely seen in professional sports today."
