Still over half a million left to be sold, apparently - tickets available for every game except the final news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8612734.stmWould be a shame if there were half-empty stadia at the World Cup, because there's no doubt South Africa and Africa generally potentially has a lot to offer in terms of fans (look at the numbers, colours and passion on show during the ACoN), but there've been a lot of reasons suggested for the lack of sales: - Expensive long-haul flights - State of global economy - Tickets inaccessible to many in South Africa and Africa - Security/crime concerns - Accomodation costs and availability - Saturation of football (World Cup, Euros, Champions League, Europa League, domestic leagues, domestic cups...) The biggest surprise for me is that it's only now that FIFA have made tickets available to buy over the counter in South Africa, despite less than half the country having internet access. If the population can't get at the tickets (and they apparently have a habit of buying on the day rather than in advance out there anyway), then of course you're not going to sell them Apparently, 2.2m tickets have been sold altogether so far, with British fans taking up 67,000+ but Germans only buying 32,269. Surprisingly, the US has been the biggest buyer so far, with nearly 119,000 sold!
