Torn achilles tendon confirmed. Definitely out of the World Cup and you have to wonder at his stage of his career if the game is up. A real shame; pleased he got his ovation at Old Trafford, but not the way to exit.

"Beckham out"? Come on Pastie - surely the man has enough problems on his plate without 606 calling for him to be dropped from the squad?!
Seriously though, I hope that's not the end for him - there's a chance for him to continue in the MLS after recovery, but that's probably the curtain down on his international career. At least if it is the end, he has that ovation at Man Utd as his last significant point (on the assumption he'd rather forget about the injury) - say what you like about Beckham The Celebrity, but Beckham The Footballer deserved that high note if he is going out on it.

IN fairness, when I posted the thread title I hadn't considered all the other ways in which it could be interpreted. Now, whilst I'm terribly sad for Beckham I cannot help but admit that I'm more entertained by the other possibilities...
