Manuel Jose has quit his post as coach of Angola, just eight months after taking charge.
The 64-year-old, who led the Black Antelopes to the quarter-finals of last month's African Nations Cup on home soil, did not give any specific reason for his decision, but did suggest that age was a factor.
"Everybody expressed their satisfaction with my work here but at the age of 64 what is left of my coaching career is short," he said.
"I would like to thank the president of the Republic, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, the journalists and the humble people of this country, who have all been very supportive."
Jose, widely regarded as one of the best ever coaches on the African continent following a successful stint with Egyptian club Al-Ahly, had four months remaining on his contract.
During his time, Angola played 14 games, winning three, drawing nine and losing twice.
His assistant Zeca Amaral will take charge of the team until a permanent replacement is found.
