Quoted from the other thread:
I watched the Reading Newcastle game on saturday and I have to say it worried me. Either of those teams would have wiped the floor with us, Reading are making a brave move this season with a young side but my god are they up for it?
I just think of the team we had a couple of years ago and the football we were playing then and look at us now, it is like going back down a few divisions. I have lost my faith in Sturrock and I think at least with our new board/chairman if he does end up getting the boot, Sir Rory may be the man to get us a decent name in charge
Opinions on tonight, folks?
I go back to that tempering reality from the QPR thread. Chopra cost £4m, Gow 200k. We're swimming against the tide.
I thought that there were lots of positives (within the context of being outclassed in most positions throughout the majority of the game). When we played football at the start of the second half, we looked quite good. We just couldn't sustain it and were unlucky with hitting the bar and some blocked shots. I like the look of Macnamee and Sheridan was a real shame but Gow did OK. But...
That is the first time I have heard the home crowd turn on Sturrock like that and it is not nice to hear; nothing positive and he should not be sacked in the morning, but he is doing himself no favours. Blaming the defence is one thing, but the dire degeneration back to hoofball and panic was only reinforced by taking off Judge. I never, ever, ever want to see a ball punted in the air in the direction of Rory Fallon. I don't want to see it punted, and I don't really want to see poor old Fallon, who tries so very hard but just is totally crap. Mackie on the wing isn't working, Noone is hardly looking like supersub, Fletcher had a second poor game and the whole lot of them looked like they were going to start scratching each other's eyes out in the lead in to half time.
It will be a long season and really we've no business thinking to compete with squads like Cardiff's (who were very impressive I thought) but the sad capitulation and negative tactics could lead to the loss of sentiment where Sturrock is concerned sooner than may actually be good for us.
We all knew this season would continue to be a battle. I find it so frustrating that Sturrock is continuing with his hoof it up to Fallon strategy, and that other teams can see us as no threat whatsoever.
