Derby County have lodged a bid for Blackpool defender Shaun Barker, skysports.com understands.
The 26-year-old full-back, who can also play in the middle, has impressed hugely for The Seasiders this season.
The former Rotherham man has been tracked by a host of Championship clubs, who are ready to try and tempt Blackpool into selling.
East Midlands rivals Derby and Nottingham Forest were known to be leading the chase - as revealed by skysports.com last month - and now The Rams have followed up their initial interest by making a firm bid.
The bid is undisclosed and Derby are now awaiting Blackpool's reply with the hope they will be able to open talk with Barker - who has just one year left on his current deal at Bloomfield Road.

Just in the case of Croft and Barker it seems altho wudn't surprise me if both of our clubs keep getting linked with the same players due to the managers, the media r still wetting themselves over it.

Blackpool are hoping to hang on to Shaun Barker following Derby County's bid for the defender. Skysports.com confirmed the Rams have made an undisclosed offer for Barker, who has one year left on his contract. Nottingham Forest have also been linked with a bid for the 26-year-old, but Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston wants to keep the full-back. "We always want to retain our better players and Shaun definitely fits into that category," said Oyston. "So unless anything changes drastically between now and August then he will be starting here next season. "We're not touting our players around and never have done. "We can't foresee whether other clubs will come along and make offers, but football's a funny animal and it's that time of year where clubs and agents are scrabbling round trying to make links." And so it begins

Blackpool fire Rams warning Oyston not keen to discuss deal for Barker Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has told Derby County he is 'not interested' in discussing a deal for Shaun Barker. Derby have failed in two attempts to sign the full-back, returning with a £400,000 bid after an initial swap deal involving Liam Dickinson was rejected. The Rams were waiting for Blackpool to resolve their managerial situation before deciding whether to increase the offer, with Ian Holloway having been installed at Bloomfield Road last week. However, Oyston is determined to keep Barker at the club and hopes the defender, who has a year left on his contract, will be part of Holloway's squad next season. Not acceptable "It is true that we have turned down a bid for Shaun," Oyston told the Blackpool Gazette. "We are just not interested in talking to them at all. "We have told them that what they have offered is not acceptable, and we don't want to swap any players. "Particularly now we have a new manager it is vitally important that we keep our better players together and players that are fundamental to where we have got and keeping us in here." Asked if Barker would still be at the club next season, Oyston replied: "I am hoping so. That's out of my hands isn't it? "But what is in my hands is the current situation and we've told Derby that we are not interested in their offer and we've turned it down." Hmmm getting feisty now r we
