I really don't think they'll actually leave - and even if they did; the sport's lost big names and survived before, and will do so again. Ferrari throwing their toys out the pram because they aren't getting what they want. What a surprise

Ferrari are far from the only ones to be fair.
Toyota, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso have all said exactly the same thing. In fact its expected that only Brawn GP, Williams F1 and Force India will sign up for next year. And thats only because their only activity is F1 racing and they can't feasibly not.
F1 would be destroyed by losing so many big names (even with some new teams next year). So it will not happen. The FIA will back down or arrive at a massive compromise.
I think its actually quite good to see FOTA becoming more powerful and the teams showing some united opposition to some of the various crackpot ideas that the FIA and Ecclestone come out with.

Renault are the latest high-profile team threatening to quit Formula 1 unless proposals to adopt a £40m budget cap in 2010 are shelved.
Ferrari joined Toyota and Red Bull in declaring their intention to pull out of F1 because of the plans on Tuesday.
And Renault boss Flavio Briatore has adopted a similar stance.
"If the decisions announced by the FIA are not revised, we have no choice but to withdraw from the world championship at the end of 2009," he said.
The FIA, the sport's governing body, want an optional £40m budget cap in order to encourage new teams to enter.
The plan would allow capped teams to operate with far greater technical freedom than those continuing with unlimited budgets.

Looks like they are sticking together on this one, F1 might need to rethink this.

Surely that leaves Mosley no choice but to back down/make concessions?
