DERBY County have announced that there is to be statue of former Rams manager Brian Clough and his assistant, Peter Taylor, at Pride Park Stadium.
Andy Edwards, who sculptured the Steve Bloomer bust recently unveiled at the stadium, has been commissioned to work on the statue.
“A statue has been discussed and suggested for a while and it is lovely that it has come to fruition,” said Nigel Clough who has followed in his father’s footsteps by managing the Rams.
Clough added: "The most important thing from our point of view, the family, was that Peter Taylor was involved in it.
"There has been a lot of individual tributes but my dad would be the first to say he would want to be sitting alongside Peter.
"Of course it is a proud moment for me but it is important Peter is in there and it is a proud moment for his family.
"It was a unique partnership.
"There are not too many partnerships stay together as long as they did and not too many have been as successful as they were.
"Peter was an extremely funny, warm man.
“It is funny because we very rarely saw them socially but at work, it was almost a telepathic relationship between dad and Peter.”
Edwards is delighted to take on his next project.
“It has to be the right kind of tribute – a full statue of two men, partners and friends – they represent the greatest partnership in football,” said Edwards.
Clough and Taylor transformed Derby County after arriving from Hartlepools United in July 1967.
They lifted the Rams from the Second Division to champions of England and European Cup semi-finalists.
Fans have been calling for some time for a tribute to the pair to be installed at Pride Park.
