Some of Tom Wait's stuff could be classed as 'Blues' I guess. And there's a guy from the 20s and 30s called Jelly Roll Morton (haha!) who is a kind of jazzy/blues singer who's quite good. Do you have any bands/singers already in mind? You could try looking on Last.fm and typing in their name and it will give you some similar artists.

Gill Scott Heron, he's hard to put into one genre but there are plenty of sweet ass blues tracks he's created.

Hmm hmm., it's hard 'cos 'Blues' is quite a wide genre! Jazz blues, 12 bar blues, rhythm and blues (proper RnB, not commercialised as it is now), soul blues etc. Marvin Gaye's a good start I guess!

Marvin Gaye isn't Blues. He's a soul singer.

Ok here goes:
Etta James is very good. Bit of a lighter Blues singer. Muddy Waters, BB King and John Lee Hooker are very similiar. The definition of Blues singing For something a little more modern Ry Cooder has some very Bluesy albums (not the Buena Vista one of course!)

All the above mentioned are good.
If you like your blues a bit more rocky then Gary Moore has done some very good stuff.
I used to love playing blues when i was in my old band.

Never listened to Blues. What's all the fuss about? Isn't it people complaining about how tough their life is?
