Three Derby County players underwent operations to repair injuries yesterday.
Midfielder Paul Green, who has had surgery on broken fingers and a fractured metatarsal already this season, had his troublesome shoulder fixed.
Defender Dean Leacock, who has been out since early November with a persistent groin problem, also went under the knife.
And another midfielder, Ruben Zadkovich, had a groin operation back home in Australia. He has not figured for the first team since starting the draw at Charlton in December.
Only last week, Steve Davies had a screw inserted in his foot to help repair a damaged metatarsal and he, along with Miles Addison (foot), Green, Leacock and Zadkovich, is out for the rest of the season.
Nigel Clough is hopeful all of them will be fit for the start of pre-season training in July.
“I think they will be OK,” said the Rams manager.
“Miles’ foot injury is probably less straightforward than the others and we have to be careful with Dean purely because of the length of time he has been out.”
Green’s foot injury allowed him to bring planned shoulder surgery forward.
“He was going to have his shoulder done in the summer but having it done now will give him a few extra weeks to strengthen it up, which should help him,” said Clough. “Dean has had a small operation to release pressure in his groin and Ruben Zadkovich has had a similar op. The Australian FA are sorting that one out.”
Derby have received some good news on the injury front.
Striker Chris Porter and left-back Jay McEveley trained yesterday.
“Hopefully, they will have no reaction and will be in contention for the weekend,” said Clough.
Porter has missed three matches since hitting three goals in two games.
McEveley has also been out since the home victory over Bristol City, when he pulled a hamstring.
Kris Commons could be involved when the Rams resume Championship action against Burnley at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.
A calf injury has kept the forward out for six games and he also missed Scotland’s World Cup qualifier in Holland at the weekend and is out of tonight’s clash with Iceland at Hampden Park.
“We will know more about Kris later this week, probably Friday, if he is going to be involved,” said Clough.
“But it is probably unlikely that he will be fit enough to start against Burnley.”
