The Manics have just announced their latest album and a small UK tour! A new album featuring Richie's lyrics - I can't wait to hear this! May well snag one of those tour tickets too!

Sad to say they have been pretty much irrelevant since 1996, and I wasn't even a massive fan of Everything Must Go. I have listened to everything they have done so I'm not making uneducated guesses, I just yearn for the excitement of a Gold Against The Soul, Holy Bible or Generation Terrorists that helped suck me into rock music as a teenager.

I agree they're not the force they were in terms of quality; however, I still enjoy listening to them and consider them to still be superior to a lot of the dross that's been released over the last five years. I'm just hoping that, given that they're Richie's lyrics, they'll put a bit more effort into them. On a side note, did you hear any of James Dean Bradfield's solo stuff? I was very pleased with it, personally

I can't disagree with what you have written there mate, and I still listen to them over certain other bands. I was put of them of a bit by an ex who had a complete obsession with them mind you, and I mean total and utter obsession I didn't hear his solo stuff as it happens, I must check that out. Apparently Nicky Wire's stuff was bad though

Ah, yes - I can totally understand that putting you off!
JDB's album was The Great Western; notable tracks include That's No Way To Tell A Lie (released as a single), Bad Boys And Painkillers, Still A Long Way To Go (my favourite on the album) and Émigré. Two of his best solo tracks, though, were the B-sides to the CD release of That's No Way - Kodachrome Ghosts and I Never Wanted Sunshine. If you can't find either of those, I'd be happy to email them.
Again, it's not as good as the earlier Manics stuff, but is markedly better than Know Your Enemy, Lipstick Traces etc.

Well we've been promised Holy Bible 2 for a long time now but this is the closest they'll come to it I think.

Well we've been promised Holy Bible 2 for a long time now but this is the closest they'll come to it I think. They've gotten the same artist to do the album artwork, so there's a start! Truthfully, I don't think they'll ever match The Holy Bible - given everything they were going through at the time, I just don't think they'll ever have that much to give to a project again. At any rate, I certainly hope they're never gonna have that much to give!

Agreed, if it comes close I think they'll have done well.

Listened to 'Life Becoming A Landslide' last night.
I wish I could write a song like that.

Out on Monday, I might take a punt on it. Apparently supermarkets have to cover the artwork up.

I've heard a couple of the new album's tracks on MySpace; must admit that on first play, I'm really not impressed.
That said, Holy Bible took a couple of plays to grow on me, so I'll give it another chance sometime.
