Well our second home win of the season and it was done in style!
The first half we were absolutely excellent and Preston only managed to get one half chance. Our formation of 2 up front, a diamond in midfield and wingbacks suited the players and Gillet was first to every second ball. Direct play was clearly encouraged here and it was very very rare that the fullback would take on a defender but instead always crossed from deep which always caused Preston trouble.
First goal was a great build up play from Saints through the wing backs again. Many shooting opportunities passed before Surman finally controlled the ball and half volleyed it into the bottom corner. Dream start!
Saganowski had an excellent game and ran himself into the ground so he was extremely deserving of 2 top notch goals, both taken very well. The first set itself up and he half volleyed a bullet into the top corner. His second and our third was a breakaway and Saga took it most of the length of the field before squeezing it in the far post.
Total domination continued for the end of the first half and into the beginning of the second however the tide slowly turned and Preston became the more dominant force around the 60 minute mark. A beautifully curled goal from their leftback was probably justified for their spell of play but Saints managed to contain any threat and close out the game.
Pukka Pies Parkin was not in the game although he could brush aside our defenders easily. Onwards to Cardiff at home next week!
Chant of the day: "You should have gone to Ikea" Saints fans to the Preston fans when we were 3-0 up as there is a new Ikea opened in the city.
