i seem to remember a quote that stated in essence to be English is a choice and does not delineated from race or ethnicity.... it was by Alfred the Great, founder of the English nation. You're telling me any random Frenchman could choose to be English?! I refuse to accept it!

Well Wales really slowed up over the last quarter. Plenty left in the tank.
And plenty of strength in depth off the bench with Bishop, Charteris and Peel.
Shocking not to see Thom Evans out wide and he didn't get on even after his performances for Edinburgh in the HC along with Max. No penetration behind the scrum again.
Plenty of heart as usual but it won't win many games.
Problem for Scotland is a shrinking population which needs to be reversed somehow. Its hard enough to pick from a small player pool hence the inclusion of the Evans born in England and Gray a Zimbambwean but all with Scottish ancestry.
Wales should win next week. Either Ireland to finish second or third with France. Scotland and Italy to fight over the wooden spoon.

Well played Wales, who thoroughly deserved their win. However, England still need do look at their creativity and discipline. Or maybe not just creativity, but the teamwork behind it as well. The punts forward and up-and-unders were there, but the chasers weren't, bar the Sackey try.
Giving away six kicked penalties says it all though. We'd also racked up six 'penalty fouls' before Wales clocked their first. Although it would have also been nice for some consistency from the officials. Byrne's taking out of Armitage in the air was a yellow card offence, plus there was one occasion where Sackey put a little grubber kick through to chase, only to be fly tackled as he ran into space. Wales got the line-out, not even a penalty of any description.
But, as the first sentence states, Wales were the better side throughout and worthy winners.

Wales clash with France tonight. Wing wizard Shane Williams is back as the sons of Glendower look to quell Parisian hearts. Wales need to be beware as the French despite their young experimental team under Lievremont can still surprise as tey have done twice (to my great rejoicing) against the invincible All Blacks. Interesting fact for OG (who presumably thinks the US Eagles are a football team ) is the selection of Mathieu Bastareaud. He is the replacEment for injured Perpignan centre Maxime Mermoz. He has been in great form for Stade Francais and looks suspicously reminiscent at times in style and appearance of Tana Umaga the Samoan turncoat. He is also the cousin of William Gallas. So when Wales win expect him to sit in the end goal area looking furiously at his team mates followed by a long huffy walk to the touchline. Hope there is plenty of running rugby between the two traditonally most exciting sides to watch in the Northern Hemisphere.

That was a bloody good match! First half was brilliant, France dominated most of the second. Well done France, they deserved to win. Still really disappointed though. I ended up throwing my toy dragon across the room in my excitement.

Jolly disappointed. Wales and Powell paid dearly for that missed tackle on Harinordoquy just before half time. They just could not get going in the second. The French rush defence was impressive (bordering on offside almost) and had their kicking been better they should have wrapped it up long before the eighty minutes were up. Still, the last eight minutes shows waht Wales could have done . Only a last ditch tap tackle stopped Lee Byrne . Hook kicked the penalty and then from a lineout Thomas nearlt made the line. And Henson was just inches away from evading the cover tackle. Oh so close but so far. Brutally tough match and one Wales will regret losing. They still should have had the measure of this French team. Ireland will look to knock a downhearted England at Croke Park and cement their chances of a Grand Slam as Eoin has predicted. Ferris, O'Leary,Fitzgerald,Kearney will have to cope with the added pressure as the younger members of the team ably led by revitalised Brian O'Driscoll. The wooden spoon will be contested for at Murrayfield though Scotland shiould have the edge in the backs ,thanks at last to the inclusion of the Evans brothers. Bet Sergio Parisse wishes he was playing for Argentina which he should be.

Scotland 26 - Sergio Parisse 6 He is virtually a one man team at present. If he were eligible he would be in the Lions with Heaslip. And in a world XXII as my first choice '8'. Scotland thoroughly merited the win and their backline at last is showing some signs of potency with the Evans at the heart of matters. Ireland deserved their win and should have wrapped it up sooner had O'Gara found his kicking boots. Awful game .One of the worst I've ever seen. Petulant children like Care and Vickery deserved their bins. Armitage should have gone for the blatant block on O'Driscoll who was high armed by Flutey (who should not even be allowed to play for England being a Kiwi). Ireland relaxed and gifted a try but the abiding thoughts are these ? Does anyone teach the kickers how to kick for position and hang the ball up at restarts to allow one's forwards to actually ahve a chance of regaining the ball ? Also what has happenend to the art of offloading ? Too many times ie Kearney and Tait with a golden oppurtunity off a fine line break, only to go head down and go to ground with several players outside. And the lines too often crooked or angled away from ones marker. This does not create space. I honestly think that rugby union has become retrogade in this respect in the NH barring Wales and France. Watch Australia and their backs and they fling it around creating space and lines.

terrible gmae by o'gara, not just the conv/pens but general kicking, only got about 2 right the whole game. (reckon he played like that in support of cork hurlers ) bod was just in a different class to everyone else on the pitch, a certain to start for the lions after displays so far this year.... now bring on scotland, who we normally have trouble with for some reason, hopefully o'gara will be back to form

He's not gambling again I hope Eoin. Scotland will be a tough nut to crack as they should have had the measure of France who were gifted a forward pass try by the line judge. Could be a cracking end to the championship Ireland versus Wales. What is it almsot sixty years for the Irish to have the Grand Slam ?

Caught the second half of Ireland versus Scotland and a thoroughly merited win.
The pack was dominant in the loose and showed a threat from deep. Still disappointed by some of the aimless kicking.
Apparently Italy should have eased past Wales, Parisse being MOTM as Wales fielded several second choices which could have backfired on Gatland.
Wales versus Ireland should be a cracker.
