And now you've spent it all again! And what about all the seasoms before that where all you did was spend, spend, spend!? we make it and we spend it, sounds good to me. Whereas Madjeski makes money and puts it in his bank account and dosent invest He invests in caravan parks for the Reading players ;D

The 48 million spending figure is a bit misleading.
Liverpool had only paid 5 million for Keane last summer and owed us 14/15 million. As the initial transfer fee for us rebuying him is 12 million, we won't have paid anything. We'll net 3-5 million on the two transfers.
Buying Defoe back for 6 million more than we sold him was not ideal business. But again Pompey owed us quite a lot for the original Defoe deal, Kaboul and even from the Mendes deal a few years back. So no money exchanged hands. Just as well with 'Arry in charge. ;D
So overall we more or less break even on Keane and Defoe (a couple of million down max). Likewise Chimbonda was bought back for about the same. That means Palacios was the only real buy at 14 million; possibly overpriced, but we'll see. And then there was Cudinicini on a free transfer - an excellent deal.
Another way of looking at the forward transfers over the last three windows is that we have replaced Berbatov with Paylyuchenko with a net gain of about 14-15 million, which we spent on Palacios.
