why hes found his level the championship hes not a premier league player maybe you'd like to look at his goalscoring record, fees paid for him, his england caps and come up with a more informed assessment....

Don't get me wrong I do like Beattie, but I've got to agree with KK that he's not a PL striker. Beattie will get goals, as long as you let him take all the penalties and free kicks. I'd be interested to see as a percentage, the number of goals he scored from open play. I'd guess it'd be no more than 50%. I think against better quality centre backs in the PL he'd get marked out of games (like when he was at Everton), and most PL teams have a queue of players looking to take free kicks round the box and penalties. If he goes to Stoke he may be able to poach goals off Delaps long throw, but if he scored more than 5 for them in the second half of the season I'd be suprised. If as has been suggested, we're after Lita to replace him then I don't think it's a bad bit of business. As we're desperately short of pace and although Lita may or may not get the number of goals Beattie has, his movement will be better which should open things up for others!!

It's been confirmed now A2V - loan deal until the end of the season, with a transfer fee already agreed.

apparently the fee could raise to £3.5 million - not bad It'll all be incentive based (goals, appearances, whether they stay up!!), I think the payable amount will be much closer to the £2.5 million that was originally quoted. Ironically I've heard that it's Beattie incentives based contract which has meant we've had to sell. Apparently he has a healthy basic wage, but there are also large amounts payable for him appearing, scoring and being on the winning while we're in the top six!!

He's gone. £3.5 million it says. I think you got a good deal there.
Does smack of you lot giving up on promotion though.

I think automatic promotion is now between Wolves, Reading and Birmingham. it does make a massive statement about our level of ambition though. Wolves are looking to bring players in, Brum have got Scott Sinclair and Bowyer in and are trying for Kris Boyd ....... our response is to sell our top scorer!! Perhaps we'll use the money to buy a second division team in Guam!!

I think that's what I'd worry about with McCabe. His business sense doesn't seem to geared towards football. We'll certainly never go bust under him, as he seems to shy away from anything looking vaguely like a gamble. What he seems to fail to realise is that the average football fan doesn't care about their clubs business portfolio or how many other clubs we own or have agreements with. For most fans the enjoyment comes from turning up on a Saturday to see your team hopefully play well and win ........ it's that simple. Anything the chairman does to sabotage this (ie by selling your top goal scorer), will make him less popular and chip away at the fans faith in him. While I'm sure it makes good business sense to sell Beattie, it was never going to go down well with fans who though they'd seen the last of us selling off our best players at the first chance we had!!

But surely it's more lucritive to get into the Prem and it's millions from television rights alone. He can buy as many 3rd world countries as he like then!
