One of the more odd band names, they're a Japanese rock/ska-punk group - and I'm loving them more every time I hear a new song! That Thing You Do!Stand By You (feat. 175R) PivotSheer brilliance ;D

TTYD is definitely my favourite of the three too I've got about 12 of their songs on my PC, and they're all fantastic. 'Jellyfish' is probably their oddest one, lyrically - it's mostly in Japanese, so I can't pick out what's being said for the most part, except for one line in the chorus... Deep-fried jelly fish!Just... what?

They've released five so far (debuted in 2001), with a sixth lined up for release on 22nd October (plus a single on 24th Sept).
Unfortunately, they - like so many Japanese groups - likely won't be releasing it officially over here. Given that Japanese music can be sold easily within the Asian market (Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia etc etc etc), the record companies generally don't bother risking the investment of selling their music in Western countries (Europe, North America etc) - which is a shame, 'cause there are some amazing bands (far superior to the dross that's out over here at the mo), and importing albums can be pricey at times.
All that said, they're touring Canada at the mo, so maybe there'll at least be a US site offering it a bit cheaper...

five!, i was thinking they were a new band. Its a pity they dont take a chance and sell their records over here, i think they would be a hit. Surprised they didnt take a chance after Kill Bill with "Woo Hoo" by The 5.6.7.8's being so popular.

Some Japanese groups have made an impact over here (Mad Capsule Markets being the first example to spring to mind), and others have begun toying with the idea, I think - Dir En Grey, a metal group, toured here last year, for instance (I saw them, and they were freakin' awesome). There are some groups/artists that'd be phenomenal over here, I reckon, but like I said, the record labels just aren't interested. The thing that most amazes me is that so many of those groups already have a cult following over here - Dir En Grey's tour sold out even after they added extra dates - yet the record labels seem oblivious to it. Pulling up two examples... GacktWhite Eyes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=elXJH6McozA (Ignore the video ) Vanilla: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5krfVziv7RYMirror: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyykrBWwLpI (first 15 secs are silent, fyi~) (This guy does amazing live concerts too; he goes beyond 'putting on a show') Dir en GreyCage: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jqSr_9NOOoCube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQNAGBRy1KQEmbryo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-hVEWexD6oSaku: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AreSsOtZXGk(That last one's one of their 'proper' metal ones, the first three are relatively gentle for their standards)

not so keen on the Dir en Grey stuff although the video to Cube is good. Thing is none of their videos would get a release over here cos of their content so would be hard to promote them. I liked Vanilla by Gackt, other 2 were ok.
Suppose most of the stuff is too heavy for me, so sticking with Shakalabbits.

To be fair, in each of those cases I just picked some of their more popular stuff - if I had a better idea of your music tastes, I could very quickly find a group that'd suit you, I'm sure ;D Picking something a bit more pop-ish (I mean real pop, not the crap we're subjected to now ) TM RevolutionVital Burner: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3RjS-0hwo (again, ignore the video) Hot Limit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=waLM8KDrW00 (...not sure if you should ignore the video or not! ;D Love the use of depth charges though!) Edit: And yeah, agreed on the Dir en Grey videos... the thing is, those aren't their 'worst' ones either! Obscure would give small children nightmares for weeks ;D

my music taste is anywhere from the Beatles to Marilyn Manson, so very broad the 2nd song Hot LImit is pretty good but not sure about the man/woman singing it, a depth charge placed under that platform would have been interesting ;D OMG i checked out the Obscure vid, it makes Slipknot seem tame -

Have found out why the band's called 'Shakalabbits' - it's shorthand for 'Chocolate Rabbits', or 'Choco Rabbits' for short. 'Shaka' is the closest approximation the Japanese have to 'choco' apparently!
One more song, called 'Mushroom Cat Number Plate' - the opening to the video explains the title ;D
Love that bass riff ;D
