"Hull have beaten Newcastle to the signing of Guinea defender Kamil Zayatte, reports BBC Radio Humberside.
Tigers chairman Paul Duffen told the station the club have wrapped up a one-season loan deal for the 23-year-old Young Boys of Berne player.
Zayatte was one of a number of targets for Newcastle and the versatile defender spent a day training with the Magpies last week.
Everton were also reported to be interested in signing him.
Zayatte, who played for Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations, can play at right-back, centre-back or defensive midfield.
He becomes Phil Brown's ninth signing since the Tigers were promoted to the Premier League, but he may not be the last.
Duffen also reported that Hull have made an offer for Fulham striker Seol Ki-Hyeon.
They are also hopeful of tying up a deal for Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell, who had a successful loan spell with the club last season."Desperately needed a new defender, so woooop!
