As you know Travis is a Kermodean apostle. And why not. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Mark Kermode is an excellent analyser of films & I liked very mch his debunking of one of the recent exhibitions at Tate Modern as rubbish , seeing as anyone could replicate the art on show. The show has some excellent guests , a chap last week showcasing the Vasari gallery in Florence, a review of Chinese architecture & some excellent bands inc. Goldfrapp the other week. Its not a bad show at all ,though they could invite the odd jazz ensemble or classical string group on rather than a pop group each week. My gripe is Lauren Laverne. She plays the part of an empty headed blonde bimbo (not an attractive one at that) to a tee. She can barely disguise her disinterest when some subjects turn up ie the critique of the Vasari gallery & Kermode who is obviously far more intelligent& aware of cultural matters is relegated to a second spotlight. Please get rid of her. Do they think by having this bimbo on it will attract more viewers ? ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I'd rather have Kirsty Lang on please or with this dumbed down BBC she's not young enough ?

Mark Kermode is a god amongst critics! Do you subscribe to the Five Live podcast? Essential listening! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I already watch The Culture Show mate, and I did enjoy how he put that pretentious tosser right about Cy Twombly. Surely most people thougt his work resembled something a 4 year-old would produce with a set of crayons! ;D Haven't watched the special on Chinese culture yet, it's still on the Sky box but will get around to it shortly. I don't mind Lauren Laverne to be honest. I think she's probably fronting the show to give it a broader appeal base, and besides I still have a soft spot for her dating back to her Kenickie days! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I loved Lauren on XFM .She was a top notch DJ(when most are vacant drones) & with intimate knowledge of her scene fronting a very decent set of altrock punkers . But I would prefer it if she was say a music critic they turned to rather than a presenter like a Lang. As for Mr.Kermode I do & its a very enjoyable & insightful listen compadre. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) He almost always never fails to bring a new light onto each film & as for his knowledge its simply incredible. You catch his insight with Film 4 as well prior to certain films. I find it amazing that a man of his erudition(he was educated near here at Haberdasher Askes Boys a private school whom we regularly enjoyed beating in sports & Oxbridge entries) cannot front Film 200x rather than Ross (and who gets an inordinate level of license payers money thrown at him too boot). The Chinese culture section was more focused on the architecture of the new China & the jewels amongst the blandness. It was from three-four weeks ago. Last week featured Goldfrapp with Alison performing a single from Seventh Tree , the Vasari Gallery & a feature on Metallica in Norway with Verity Sharp prior to the release of their new album following the disappointing to many St.Anger. Good viewing. Personally I think they could extend the programme by fifteen minutes. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Like you I can't believe Jonathan Ross has still got the Film 2008 gig, he's a great chat show and radio host, but why not let somebody host a film show who actually devotes his life to the medium......not to mention somebody with far better taste? The Chinese speicial does sound like the one I have recorded. Was it an hour long show? As for being longer; that's another reminder to start recording the one that's on later in the week instead. One day I'll remember!

Just watched the said episode about China, fascinating stuff, especially the architectural section. The CCTV building really is something isn't it? That photographer fella's quite a talent too I must say.
The section on the music scene was a little depressing though wasn't i? The fact that nearly everything had been whitewashed by Western influences......thank that heavens for the brilliance of electro-hip hopsters New Pants! I did like how the rap stars in China have the same sounds as their US counterparts but their lyrical content is completely sanitised, the line "I love hip-hop, I love my mum and dad" cracked me up! ;D

I just think she's funny and pretty cool. I'd like to be her. ;D I'd like to hear you singing 'Punka'! ;D She was always a good ad-libber on stage and had a taste for the more ridiculous and dry areas of humour. She's also living proof that intelligent life does exist in Sunderland. ;D
